“I asked you to live with me because you are special.”
Gladly agreeing to her cohabitation offer, it was too late for Dong-kyung to back out. Myul-mang is all set to live together magically transporting his abode to melt with her rooftop place. Mindlessly checking out Myul-mang’s house’s expensive-looking interior, she also disturbs his solitude.
Thinking she likes him to make such an out-of-nowhere proposal, Dong-kyung clarifies that she did it following his suggestion to be clingy to him since he is “fate” that came to her. She quips how she felt scared to think that he will suddenly disappear.
When Tak Sun-kyung dropped by to check on his sister, he goes for a ceremonial assessment to test Myul-mang. Through a round of alcohol, Myul-mang gets his approval by reading his thoughts pretending to empathize with him. He also affirms Sun-kyung as Dong-kyung’s most precious person although she denies it.
“See you later. Your last 100 days are starting today.”
Before heading to work, Dong-kyung discusses their contract by listing down the items neatly. She then realizes how breaching the contract will cause her cherished person to die, either way, Myul-mang strikes by confirming her brother which earned him a murderous stare.
At work, he also pesters her because of the heater in her house by sending messages using his power. When Dong-kyung met with one of the company’s writers at a funeral house, a flash of her memory appeared and she recalled seeing Myul-mang crying his heart out.
At night, he tells her to just quit work and stay at home, but she refuses to do so. She also leisurely annoys Myul-mang while charging using his hand about her memory of him crying.
“That’s why they are all like that. Because they’re based on him.”
Officially introduced in the series, the love triangle involving writer Na Ji-na (Shin Do Hyun), Cha Joo-ik (Lee Soo Hyuk) and Lee Hyun-kyu (Kang Tae Oh) readies an engrossing love story. With Na Ji-na going to confront the man she first loved and the man who gave her first kiss. Joo-ik and Hyun-kyu live together which makes their tangled hearts an interesting watch.
Later, Dong-kyung learns from Na Ji-na about sharing her first kiss with Joo-ik. It turns out also that Joo-ik and Hyun-kyu live together.
Myul-mang figures out the trigger to Dong-kyung’s memory and speaks with his counterpart female deity (Jung Ji So). She expresses her worry about his growing fondness for Dong-kyung to which he strongly denied. She also pities the person who will die in place of Dong-kyung in case Myul-mang breaks the contract.
“So my plan is to love you. Then, I’ll be able to live without losing anything.”
Taking it out on Dong-kyung, Myul-mang draws the line she should not cross and caused her unimaginable pain when he refused to lend his hand. Reviving her with his touch, he reminds her that he is not a human.
Furious, Dong-kyung rushes to jump from the rooftop but was stopped by Myul-mang. She tells him that she decided to make him the “person she loves the most” so she won’t be losing anything. Pulling her to his embrace, he tells her that they will do it right so she can love him to the point of her wanting to destroy the world for him.
Round 2 of the enhanced cohabitation program Dong-kyung and Myul-mang ensues as the latter taunts her how no human has ever loved him before. But she is resigned to the idea of loving him because she has no other choice.
“I was right. People don’t deserve my compassion. So, I won’t back down from your fight. I want to see you head over heels and give up everything for me.”
On her way home, Myul-mang steadies Dong-kyung with his hand aboard the busy train. He shares how he was busy all day listening to humans’ selfish thoughts which validate his initial stand of not caring for them at all.
Seeking the help of K-Drama Tale of the Nine-Tailed for her crash course in learning to love a supernatural being. Unable to comprehend why his handsome face does not pass to her standard, he still relents to appear in Dong-kyung’s dream. They enter her dreamworld where Myul-mang becomes the dream boy of Dong-kyung’s girlish fantasies.
But then, she requests to also enter his world. Obliging her request, he showed a beautiful place that fades to a lifeless space the moment he walks on it. Seeing a glimpse of his lonely heart, she walks to where he is, and the lifeless garden blooms again.
“The reason behind everything that disappears. The deity that makes everything vanish. It sure must be lonely to love the things that disappear the moment you touch them. Lonely enough not to ever want to love them.”
Understanding his pain that he wants to escape from, Myul-mang cuts the moment and wakes her up from the dream.
“Don’t move. Don’t look. It’s not even worth it.”
Witnessing Dong-kyung’s verbal spat with her brother, Myul-mang mocks her forbearance to such a troublemaker. He tells her that being forgiving and kind does not matter at all. Engaging to another verbal confrontation, they meet again at the hospital. Dong-kyung who receives a call about her brother from a nurse rushes to where he is. She overhears her brother’s ploy to get money causing her pain.
At the same time, Dong-kyung’s doctor bumps on Sun-kyung and reveals her medical condition. Outside, the raging knife killer whom Myul-mang revived to pay for his sins sees him talking to Dong-kyung. Intent to stab Myul-mang, she covers him, but he has already thwarted the knife about to pierce her.
Doom At Your Service Episodes 3 & 4 Musings
The agreement for Dong-kyung to wish for the world’s destruction before she dies in less than a hundred days is in place. She gets an extra service from Myul-mang to lessen the pain of her illness by holding his hand. Failure to fulfill the contract means her most cherished person will die.
This week, we are also provided that glint of hope of how “really fated” Myul-mang and Dong-kyung are. As hinted to how the latter remembered a memory of her and vice versa. Dong-kyung’s idea of using the “power of love” is indeed expected. Given the circumstances of who she’s trying to use the love trap, makes the series all the more exciting. But it’s hard not to root for her goal as well.
Our heroine has been making brave choices without regard to her status as a human, and we love her for that. Her precarious 100 days did not hinder her to live as normally as possible. Her love analysis is top-notch, she could provide a solution to those who need it.
There’s a lot to process on Myul-mang’s backstories. After all, he’s the first K-Drama supernatural character whose goal is not to love but to destroy. Admittedly, this series I already marked as my favorite even before its launch date, because I’m extra fond of the lead pairing. Thus, I’m happy to tune in each week. I lost count of how many times the shared gazes of the main leads mesmerized me.
Visually scenic with stunning screenplay and dialogues, I hope the story will sustain the vibe up to the finish line. Obviously, Dong-kyung’s determination to succeed with her love plan and Myul-mang being caught in a foreign situation to his “already planned” existence would be the plot’s trajectory.
Doom At Your Service airs every Monday and Tuesday on tvN.
