Numbers Episodes 3 and 4 Highlights
Previously, Auditor Kang submitted a “disclaimer of opinion” about People’s Entertainment. With that VP Han grilled Director Sim. To remedy the situation, the shrewd VP tasks Director Sim to use Auditor Kang’s team’s mistake in the report submitted in the previous year.
VP Han suggests leading the team to forge Board Meeting minutes that were initially nonexistent.
“An accountant’s role and responsibility is not for people who work for their money. It is for people whose money works for them.”
To save Sang Ah Group’s CEO’s son, VP Han and Director Sim explain that forging the minutes of the Board Meeting would make his son just had failed investment rather than embezzlement and negligence. Auditor Kang’s team also works on documents to create Board Meeting minutes
Finding Ho-woo on the rooftop, Seung-jo listens to him lament about how everyone is protecting the rich and bad son of Sang Ah Group but no one protects the people who poured their hard-earned money to invest in People’s Entertainment.
Before that, he also got a reality pep talk from Director Sim that his role as an accountant is to really help the major stockholders.
VP Han takes Ho-woo’s suggestion to sell the bad loans of People’s Entertainment and the accounting firm also handles the buying and selling in the market.
But when Sang Ah Group’s chairman Lee Chan-ju hints at not going to participate in the bidding since his son has been cleared of embezzlement and negligence, VP Han listens to Seung-jo in using the “right to view” accounts to make Sang Ah Group’s chairman acquiesce.
Seung-jo asks Chairman Lee Sung-ju of SA Investment, Chan-ju’s younger brother to join the bid. The idea came from Ho-woo and Seung-jo has also made Ho-woo join his team.
“The power to make people act without giving orders.”
Reminding Ho-woo to brace himself for the fierce events that could happen in the bidding, it, of course, happened when Sang Ah Group chairman tried to cheat in the bidding.
But what he was fearful about was actually useless since Sang Ah Group’s competitors’ bid was only minimum. In the end, they lose money.
After the bidding, Ho-woo overhears the conversation about how Seung-jo took charge of liquidating Haebit Construction. He questions Seung-jo’s decision for the liquidation and expresses his goal to bring justice to the people affected by that decision.
Feeling unsettled with Ho-woo’s inquiry about the documents of Haebit Construction, Seung-jo shows him part of the documents but uses it as a condition to join his new project.
Director Sim who faced a loss recently steps out of a project and Seung-jo took over. It turns out it was another trap set by his father Je-kyun and mimics the same approach to what happened in Haebit Construction.
But the project Seung-jo is supposed to be in charge of takes a different route as his father decides to go with Director Kim’s idea to sell it to an overseas equity company.
“Once someone crosses the line, they can never go back especially for that someone who was rewarded for crossing the line. Your best decision is creating the worst situations for others.”
Ho-woo who discovered a discrepancy in the report learns the initial report was changed and a director has taken part in it. Without a response from Seung-jo who just came from an argument with his father about selling Soma Tech rushes to confront the man behind it.
Tagging along, Ho-woo learns it was Director Sim who manipulated Haebit Construction’s report and he is trying to do the same thing to Soma Tech.
Forming a partnership because of the same goal they have, Seung-jo and Ho-woo move to prevent the same fate to happen for Soma Tech. Remembering Ho-woo’s reaction to his confrontation with Seung-jo, Director Sim learns about his connection with Haebit Construction.
He confronts Ho-woo and proudly declares his intention is futile. In response, Ho-woo tells him that if his conscience is clear as he claims writing the correct report, his presence should not matter to him at all.
To that Director Kim asserts a sensible warning that Ho-woo’s situation of a powerless accountant might not get any second chances so it’s best if he does not proceed with his plans.
Fortunately, after that encounter, Yuna who notices his bad mood throws in encouraging words not to lose his self-esteem no matter what.
On D-Day of meeting the representative of HK Private Equity, Seung-jo and Ho-woo see a familiar face.
Numbers Episodes 3 and 4 Musings
Neatly written with ample thrill, Numbers has literally calculated the amount of information to explain its unfamiliar work setting while looping in the respective stories of the lead characters and villains.
Early on, the story goes into a habit of not putting a vague front to the point of presenting everything explicitly. Ho-woo’s motivation being revealed right away also adds interest to the narrative.
Seemingly, everything is out in the open in Numbers. Moreover, the direction of the conflict and the division of contending parties are distinctly woven to draw theories on the complicated relationships of the characters.
Seung-jo’s reunion with his ex-lover who is also Ho-woo’s adopted sister suggests a possible ally or enemy that would make the chance of Soma Tech slim.
Can Seung-jo repair their relationship? Will Director Sim and VP Han emerge victorious with their plan?
