Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist Episode 3 Highlights

“I need you to find someone for me. Yoo Se-yeob. Age, 27. A former physician in the Medical Office. People call him the Divine Needle because of his acupuncture skills. Would that be enough for you to find him?”

Sent from Hanyang, Royal Inspector Jo Shin-wook, Jo Tae-hak’s adopted son, is on a mission to find Yoo Se-yeob in Sorak Village. Furthermore, it seems that he knows and is affiliated with Lady Seo Eun-woo.

His core mission was interrupted as Shin-wook aided Sorok Village in a murder incident called the Gumiho case. Similar to the case last year, the victims are killed and their kidneys are stolen.

As the culprit started to make its move again, Poong and Eun-woo were near the scene of the murder. Also, another witness was at the time of the murder and saw the whole killing.

The Sorak Villagers then accuse a girl to be the ‘Gumiho’ as she was caught red-handed walking around in the woods with blood. However, Physician Gye, Se-poong, and Eun-woo don’t believe these accusations since Yeon-hee is diagnosed with sleepwalking.

“In order for this deal to be neatly wrapped up, my sister-in-law must be taken care of. She is the one who solved the Gumiho case last year. She is highly audacious for a woman of nobility. Even now, she’s been digging for evidence regarding this case.”

With that, Lady Eun-woo is determined to find evidence that Yeon-hee is innocent. She also got a lead that the weapon in killing the victim was not a knife but an arrow.

Since Yeon-hee vaguely remembers what happened, Se-poong and Eun-woo encourage her to tell any clues she remembers. With these, Eun-woo effortlessly figures out what she saw that night.

It turns out that her brother-in-law, Ho-joon, was the ‘Gumiho’ and used Yeon-hee’s illness to cover his crimes. Furthermore, he also knows that Eun-woo is finding evidence and he wants to take a few steps ahead of her.

However, Eun-woo shifted the situation as she uses herself as bait and drives him to speak out the truth as the rest of the guards are listening outside.

“From now on, I wish to live as Eun-woo. I am done worrying about what others would think.”

As they proved that Yeon-hee was innocent, Eun-woo made a brave move on the day of his husband’s death memorial. Her mother-in-law embarrassed her again in front of many and physically abused her.

Luckily, Se-poong was there to protect her and brought evidence that she did not kill her husband. Eun-woo’s husband was suffering from stomach cancer.

His mother ignored the physician’s advice and instead approach shamans to cure her son. As Eun-woo relieves that she hasn’t done anything about her husband’s death, she cuts ties with the Cheongsong Lee clan.

Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist Episode 3 Musings

Pivoting on healing stories in its opening week, the series surprised us with the twist of genres from horror to investigative. Furthermore, the newly introduced characters, Jo Shin-woo and Lady Namhae add more depth with their riveting personalities.

Despite their characters not yet formally introduced, Jung Won Chang and Yeon Bo Ra’s performances made a mark in the third episode. Moreover, Shin-woo’s character got my attention with his principles and background.

It is also too early to guess if he is an antagonist and the same person who assassinates under Jo Tae-hak’s command. As Tae-hak’s adopted son, it is most likely that he also conspired in the Late King’s death and Se-poong’s father’s death.

With that in mind, Tae-hak starts to move his pawns again as a Court Lady died of the same illness as the Late King. Fortunately, the new King doesn’t give up his hope yet and was still secretly investigating this case.
