Rookie Cops Episodes 9 & 10 Key Moments
“All relationships change when you cross the line.” Of course there are relationships that won’t change as you expect it. If you want a change in a relationship, you should have the courage to cross the line.”
Eun-kang and Seung-hyun are officially a couple and that makes their weekend breaks exciting. They line up their schedule for the weekend, but out of respect for their seniors, Eun-kang lets Seung-hyun join them for a quick drinking session.
Making up for the dinner, drunk Seung-hyun managed to go to Eun-kang’s house with a peace offering tteokbokki takeout. She also lets him sleep in her room which caused an early meet-the-parents for her family and Seung-hyun.
Later, they proceed to the plan of Seung-hyun training Eun-kang. However, it didn’t turn out well as he keeps losing patience. They even reach Cheongu by driving aimlessly and accidentally meet Ju-young, Dae-il and Bum-ju who were running an investigation on the fraud seller who duped Ju-young.
After finding the convenience store where the culprit has been sending the scam packages, they go for a quasi stakeout. Se-hyun, the man who sends the package is actually being threatened by a neighborhood hyung. Convincing Se-hyun to lure the hyung who has been enslaving him, Eun-kang and the rest unluckily failed to catch him.
“Always say hello, and you’re half-done.”
Field training at patrol divisions commences for the rookie cops. They were tasked to join police stations to gain experience in safeguarding the neighborhood.
Seung-hyun, Eun-kang, and Tak are fortunately in one team. Unluckily though, they are assigned to a station with infamous senior police who is biased toward KNPU students.
Lengthening her patience with the frequent nitpicking senior officer, Eun-kang stumbles on the news about Se-hyun missing when Tak and his mentor met his grandmother.
From there, Eun-kang traces Se-hyun’s whereabouts and finds the hideout of the evil hyung subjecting him and other victims to forced labor. Seung-hyun and Tak go to where she is and they break into the villain’s lair.
Earlier, Eun-kang already shared what she has investigated with her mentor. So, when the villain tries to escape, he was cornered by the police with the help of the three newbie cops.
Rookie Cops Episodes 9 & 10 Musings
I’m still a happy camper after watching Rookie Cops this week, and much of that feeling is because of its pleasant narrative. Let’s hope it will stay that way in the last six runs.
Moreover, the series has been cleverly thinking of its side conflicts while imparting the campus life of the lead characters. We saw them utilize their learnings in cracking a scammer’s whereabouts. In the process, they were able to save innocent victims.
Accordingly, the focus to fortify their friendship bond is as evident as establishing the adorable love pairings. On that note, we hope to see the other pairs catch up with Eun-kang and Seung-hyun.
This episode expressed the reality of how police officers who are non-KNPU graduates have an inevitable grudge against KNPU students. The stigma of graduating with rank without navigated experiences is a common grievance for non-state police universities, not just in South Korea.
Correspondingly, KNPU alumni have assumed special connections like fruits coming from the same tree. That explained why Eun-kang got a favor from a senior officer who is her upperclassman.
For a youth and school story, Rookie Cops thankfully averted shallow issues typical of its genres. After introducing the main characters, the series has organized its trajectory well to introduce the culminating conflict.
Along the way, side stories featuring the supporting leads reflect its intention for a balance screen time. Including the case previewed for next week’s episodes, we can infer another problem to be tackled in the story.
If not, the expected unraveling of Tak’s brother and Seung-hyun’s father’s unfinished business might start building up.
