Train Episode 3 Recap
“Now, I have a reason to live.”
Eight years ago, Do Won (Yoon Shi Yoon) learns about his father’s sin to Seo Gyung (Kyung Soo Jin). From there, she became a reason for Do Won to live.
Back to the present time, Do Won finds Seo Kyung lifeless, breaking his heart in the process. He is reminded by his junior to check his phone to see Seo Kyung’s last voice message.
In her dying words, Seo Kyung left a message that his father is not her father’s killer, but the Mugyeong train station killer. She further mentions how her mom’s jewelry that went missing 12 years ago, were found on the five victims.
“Twelve years ago, my father was unlucky and happened to stop by at the crime scene.”
Jung Min finds Do Won staring at a photo with Seo Kyung and tells her that his father is not the real culprit who killed Seo Kyung’s father.
Chiding himself for jumping into the wrong conclusion about his father, he weighs on the what-ifs of the night when both their fathers were killed.
Investigation continues for the Mugyeong station serial murder case. Unable to explain the cryptic situation of the 5th victim, Do Won assumes that she is an unregistered twin sister of the living Lee Ji Young.
“Are you sure that Lee Jin Sung’s finger prints are from his right hand?”
The fingerprints result on Seo Kyung’s murder reveals a match to a former felon Lee Jin Sung whom Do Won investigated before.
However, Lee Jin Sung has an alibi and he can’t have a fingerprint since his fingers were cut off as soon as he got out of jail.
Do Won visits Mugyeong church indicated in the flyer and finds it abandoned perplexing him in the process. Finding another clue, he goes to where the church is relocated.
What’s baffling is how the pastor shown in the flyer has been dead three years ago, but the flyer is dated a year ago.
“Do you think Lee Ji Young has a twin?”
Confusion keeps on piling up for Do Won when he wants to badly catch the culprit who killed Seo Kyung.
The fingerprints found on the bag and flyer from Lee Jin Sung, the abandoned Mugyeong church which the flyer described and Lee Ji Young having a twin with the exact same neck burn scar and the clothing company which has been closed eight years ago – put Do Won on extreme headache.
Jung Min finds Do Won at Mugyeong station. Gazing at the station, he tries to reconcile where Seo Kyung’s killer is standing when he shot her.
Do Won mentions an urban legend about the ghost train which has been mysteriously arriving at train stations. He asks Jung Min if she will believe him if he says that he has seen a train that comes from nowhere.
Staring blankly at him, Do Won continues with his outrageous thought of how the man who killed Seo Kyung may have been a passenger of that train.
“There’s one more person who saw the train other than me.”
Forming an absurd picture, Do Won visits Lee Sung Wook in the jail causing another impulsive move trying to get information about the train he saw.
But, the deranged Sung Wook can’t be of help. Dragged away, Do Won is unable to see the drawings revealing the train.
Worried about Do Won, Jung Min talks to Chief Oh to spill their last conversation hinting Do Won’s possible mental problem.
Refusing to follow Chief Oh’s order to step down his role, his superior chides him of his recklessness.
She tells him to take it slow and accept the reality that Seo Kyung will not be back anymore.
“I’m sorry for liking you.”
Mulling over the words of Chief Oh about the pills he is taking, he goes to the train station with his gun and stops on the exact place where he found Seo Kyung.
He listens again to her last voice mail bearing the truth about their fathers’ death. In tears, she also apologizes for liking him and being grateful and happy for meeting him.
Drawing her last breath, she tells him that she would do the same thing again if she will be given a chance.
Closing his eyes in pain, Do Won loads his gun and points it on his temple. Just as he is about to pull the trigger, he hears the sound of an approaching train.
Adding to his surprise is the sight of Seo Kyung sitting on the train.
“Where am I right now?”
Chasing after the zooming train, Do Won climbs on it. He is unaware, that on the same train, a man who looks exactly like him, is being chased by the police.
Running for his life, Do Won exits Mugyeong train station, that is clearly non-existent in his world. Continuing his run, he also sees Mugyeong church that has long been abandoned from what he knows. He is also given the same flyer by the pastor who has long been dead.
With the sound of police siren, Do Won goes to the train tracks, but halts when the sound of the gun was fired. Pointing his gun, he stops when he sees the police woman pointing her gun at him – with the same face as Seo Kyung.
Episode 3 Peak Points & Afterthoughts
At the rate of Train’s speeding narrative, a momentary lapse easily confuses viewers. That is especially since the hero of the story follows the same career and even people surrounding him.
Quite a poignant scene for Do Won’s almost suicide as it captured the harrowing words he hoped to hear in person from Seo Kyung. With growing and surging unexplained situations he encounters, his crossing to a parallel world will ultimately tests his tenacity.
Will he able to win the trust of the police woman who looks like Seo Kyung? Find out in episode 4 of OCN’s Train.
