Under the Queen's Umbrella

“He may be inexperienced, but that may, in turn, lead him to approach the problem with a new perspective. ”

The King suggests that Crown Prince Seong-nam handle the corruption in Uichang. Disagreeing with it, the Chief State Councilor says it’s too early for the Crown Prince to be involved in political affairs. However, none of the court officials agree with him.

Called at the Queen’s quarters, Crown Prince Seong-nam hears from the Queen that she chose the Crown Princess herself. Explaining how Cheong-ha is full of love for the Crown Prince, the Queen asks Prince Seong-nam to protect her.

Sentimental while looking at the remaining books of his late brother, Prince Seong-nam sees a torn page from his older brother’s treatment journal. Showing it to the Queen, they discover that the late Crown Prince began to cough blood when he began receiving acupuncture on gimunhyeol. Due to that, their suspicions of Physician Kwon become stronger.

Under the Queen's Umbrella

“Right now, you may think this is the best option for the child, but it might not be.”

Physician Kwon and Master Toji meet up with Prince Ui-seong. Refusing and hesitant to rebel against his father, Prince Ui-seong hears from Physician Kwon that he killed the late crown prince as ordered by Consort Hwang. In addition to that, the prince learns that the King ascended the throne unfairly.

Eager to meet the Crown Prince, Cheong-ha delivers him grain syrup and trips on her skirt, so the Crown Prince catches her. Prince Mu-an’s baby gets discovered by the other grand princes. Taking care of his child, the prince feels guilty for being an incompetent father to his daughter who has infantile colic.

Consoled by his mother, the Prince asks his mother to bring Cho-wol back. Revealing to him, the Queen calls on A-ra’s wet nurse, Cho-wol, who wanted her child to have a different destiny from hers.

Under the Queen's Umbrella

“Seeing how he fell into the trap on his own tells me that he is willing to take the risk in order to obtain something from me.”

Physician Kwon gets reinstated as a royal physician, and Master Toji sees this as a risk. However, Physician Kwon sees it as an opportunity and is confident that the poison he used can never be detected during autopsy.

The Queen finds similarities in Royal Physician Yoo’s prescription with the outside prescription they used to treat the late crown prince. Crown Prince Seong-nam finds Master Toji, and confronts him knowing that he is Royal Physician Yoo Sang-uk.

Explaining himself, he tells how he was scared that the crown prince died after giving his prescription, but later realizes it was because of poison. Seeing the drawing of the late crown prince’s corpse, Master Toji acts he is in disbelief while saying he thought it was Crown Prince Tae-in’s because of its similarities.

While Master Toji believes he could serve as bait to work under the Queen’s shadows, Crown Prince Seong-nam and the Queen are also wary of his connection with Physician Kwon.

The Queen Dowager breaks the teacup Consort Hwang serves her, knowing it is poisoned. She then directly asks who’s the real father of Prince Ui-seong. Meanwhile, Physician Kwon greets deposed Queen Yoon, his mother.

Under The Queen’s Umbrella Episode 13 Musings

Though he’s still relatively young to take care of a child, Prince Mu-an is respectable for taking responsibility for the actions he has done out of love. Rather than focusing on their mistake, how he and Cho-wol handle the present is something to look up to.

Parenthood is a new experience for him, and it’s definitely not easy. He shows his willingness to make an effort by giving the same amount of interest in producing a baby with learning how to be a father.

On the side of Prince Seong-nam, love finally blooms for him and the crown princess after the Queen’s clarification. While being recently married, he doesn’t lose sight of his priorities in his investigations.

A lot of shocking revelations of the characters’ identities are presented, beginning with Master Toji as Royal Physician Yoo. The connections become more complicated as Physician Kwon’s and Prince Ui-seong’s roots are gradually revealed.

Redrawing the characters’ relationships, there’s a lot to look forward to in the remaining episodes, be it in the outcome of the planned revolt or the revelation of the crown prince’s death.
