Welcome To Samdalri Episodes 3 and 4 Highlights

Previously, Sam-dal and her sisters plus her niece returned to Jeju to escape the reporters hounding their house.

She reconnects with Young-pil her former best friend and lover.

Knowing her predicament, Yong-pil agrees to keep her return a secret from their other three friends.

“Being alone in your thoughts won’t give you an answer if its not there in the first place. You’ll only think of doing something foolish.”

Saving Yong-pil who does not know how to swim, Sam-dal is asked to leave as he wallows in embarrassment for being saved like a weakling.

Recreating their awkward scene when he discovered her in their house, Sam-dal didn’t go but rubbed salt in his ego by replicating the cute finger gunshot he threw last time.

He walks her home. Reaching the front of their houses, he asks if she’s okay. A flashback of her old memories when she felt disappointed and distressed resurfaced. All those moments, Sam-dal realized how Yong-pil had constantly asked if she was okay.

The next day, Sam-dal’s mother proceeds to do her signature marathon in long johns against her worried husband following behind.

Knowing her mother learned about her problem, Sam-dal tried to explain her side but before she could do that, she was handed some blankets to dry up outside. However, his other two friends, Eun-woo and Kyung-tae, are in front of their house wanting to check on her so she waits until they are gone.

Sang-do the last member of their friendship circle driving a luxury car, also learns of the news that Sam-dal is back and hurries to her house. Unlike the other two, he bravely says hi to her.

In Seoul, Sam-dal’s loyal staff are still being hounded by a pesky and evil reporter.

Welcome To Samdalri

“People I don’t need to explain myself to keep asking questions. But people I want to talk to won’t even hear me out. No one wants to ask me anything. It’s not true. I didn’t do anything! What they say on the news isn’t true! So, why won’t you ask me?!”

Wallowing in worries, Sam-dal walks into the neighborhood and eavesdrops on the opinions of the townspeople about her situation. Some do not care at all while some show disappointment.

Young-pil finds her at the place where dog Sam-dal is stationed and asks her to join their friends who are drinking beer. Chatterbox Kyung-tae blurts how he’s happy that she failed and came back not realizing that she is just behind his back.

Hurt by what she heard, Sam-dal rebuts that she did not fail and walks away. Yong-pil and the rest follow her and she finally burst out in tears.

She painfully whines about how the friends she was expecting to know her better never asked the right questions. Bawling like a mess on the ground, she wailed that she was innocent. She complains about why the people she thought would be concerned about her did not ask if she abused her power.

Waking up without recollection of how she got home, Sam-dal also clarifies with her mom that she did not abuse her assistant.

Hitting her tipping point, Samdal’s mother brings her to meet the ajumma divers. She also shares the true story of how he ex-boyfriend cheated with her assistant who spread the news that she was abused.

Meanwhile, Yong-pil discovers Sam-dal’s phone and later answers a call from Jung-gi, Sam-dal’s cheater boyfriend. Later, he brings her phone and she can’t bring up her dismal experience with her ex-boyfriend.

“Are you okay?”

While the whole town knows that Sam-dal’s ex-boyfriend cheated on her, Yong-pil is clueless. The townspeople are also careful not to have them both in the same place. But what they worried about did not happen as they met with the elders to arrange the seaweed harvest.

Overhearing the elders talking about Yong-pil being dumped by Sam-dal, the latter is enraged. It turns out that it was Yong-pil who broke up with her. They soon engage in a seaweed-throwing fight which only stopped when Sam-dal’s mother stopped them.

When Sam-dal receives a text from Jung-gi about talking with a man, she realizes that Yong-pil answered a call from him. At that same time, Yong-pil also learned that Sam-dal was cheated by her boyfriend with the girl who also accused her of power-tripping.

The two meet somewhere and clarify what happened. Sam-dal also confessed how embarrassed she was that’s why she can’t bring up the fact that she was cheated on.

Welcome To Samdalri Episodes 3 and 4 Musings

This week in Welcome To Samdalri, viewers were served with realistic messages about how people tend to accept opinions that would make someone facing a problem look pitiful or disappointing. In the case of Sam-dal, she emotionally asserted that moment when in front of her hometown best friends, she poured out how hurt she is that no one wants to hear her story.

It also leaves a lesson regarding Sam-dal’s pride that she still is not one of her friends who gave up Seoul and returned to their hometown. It was her resolute dream to carve a life out of Jeju and she wants to hold on a hope that she can still overcome that slump.

Her situation reminds us to be wary of our close interactions with people we trust who could be secretly annoyed with us.

Opening the truth about the breakup between Yong-pil and Sam-dal, we can assume more details to be unveiled in the future. Based on the awkward greeting shared by Sam-dal’s mother and Yong-pil’s father; the reason probably involves them.

Also entering the picture is Sang-do who obviously has long harbored admiration towards Sam-dal. This makes the expected love line with Yong-pil worth anticipating.

These moments and the nostalgic throwback keep the momentum of the series high. The friendship circle shared by Sam-dal, Yong-pil, Kyung-tae, Eun-woo and Sang-do also refreshes us with the genuine friendship that we may or may not have.
