Hello, Me! Quick Plot Recap (Spoiler Alert!)

When Ban Ha-Ni was 17 years old, she was loved and idolized by many students at her school because of her good looks and talents. However, 20 years after Ha-Ni turns 37 years old her life is so far from the life she wished for when she was 17.

Working as a contractual employee, Ha-Ni’s life was full of struggle because she doesn’t have a permanent job that’s why she still lives in her sister’s house. When things got complicated and problems arose, Ha-Ni decided to end her life by letting a truck hit her.

Ha-Ni woke up in a hospital, but deep inside her, she wanted to die. When the nurse checks her vital signs, she heard that the girl on the other side of the ward has the same name as her. To make the situation more cryptic, they also have the same name of parents and birthdate.

Curious Ha-Ni opened the curtain just to see her 17-year-old self sitting on a bed and talking to a nurse. Eyes wide opened, Ha-Ni cannot believe what she is seeing but the 17-year-old Ha-Ni doesn’t know her and isn’t aware that she’s on a different timeline.

Later on, both of them decided to work together to bring back the 17-year-old Ha-Ni to her timeline. Along the way, they met Han Yoo-Hyun, a son of a chaebol that wanted to prove to his father that he can be independent.

Hello, Me! Peak Points (Spoilers Alert)

When Life Turns Upside Down, Turn it Around

What drew me to Hello, Me! is the moral lesson that it gives to its viewers. When Ha-Ni made that choice 17 years ago, wherein she ran on a rainy road to get back to her audition that caused her father’s death. It caused her life’s turning point.

The energetic and enthusiastic Ha-Ni became dull and suffered because of her regret. She doesn’t also shine that much, unlike her younger self. However, the presence of the younger Ha-Ni motivates her to move on with life and live for herself.

That’s why Ha-Ni secured a corporate job in Joa Company and gained back her vibrancy. She even reunited with her high school best friend Oh Je-Eun who also works in the same department. Even though there are misunderstandings in the past, they were able to settle them.

Character Growth

Hello, Me! gave a warm feeling because of its characters who developed positively along the way. Yoo-Hyun wanted to prove to his father that he can make it on his own.

While working on Joa Company as kitchen staff, he realizes how hard it is to earn money and get to live day by day. His father saw the improvement of Yoo-Hyun and is happy that he is learning about the reality of life.

Meanwhile, Choon-Shik was a bully during his high school days, and Ha-Ni is the one who bravely straightened him up. Choon-Shik became an actor with a pen name “Anthony” but keeps struggling to prove his skills in the entertainment industry.

Later on, when he saw Ha-Ni again, he became a better person and apologizes to Ha-Ni because he feels that he is partly the reason why Ha-Ni’s father died.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old Ha-Ni came back to her timeline exactly where the event of his father died because of a truck. Meeting her future self, Ha-Ni assesses what would be her choice — get stuck in the past or move a step closer to the future that she dreams.

Hello, Me! Series Musings

To be honest, I expected that Hello, Me! has a lot of romance going on. However, as I watch it, I guess the drama wanted to focus more on Ha-Ni and her younger self.

As they progress to their healing, they were able to help other people such as Yoo-Hyun and Choon-Shik to realize what they wanted to do with their lives.

hello me

I also don’t feel the romantic chemistry of Ha-Ni and Yoo-Hyun because I felt that Yoo-Hyun is a bit childish. I’m also in awe of how  KimYoung Kwang turned into a character who pouts a lot. I just hope that they made his character a bit mature so that he can level in Ha-Ni’s age.

hello me

More than the romance, I love the sister vibes of Choi Kang Hee and Lee Re because you can see the difference in their character portrayals. They are also able to get to enlighten their viewers that there are uncertainties in life, but we need to get back on track and get our breakthroughs.
