The Road: Tragedy of One Quick Plot Recap (Spoilers Alert!)
The drama revolves around the people who reside in Royal the Hill. Baek Soo-Hyun (Ji Jin Hee) is a respectable anchorman who gained the trust of his viewers. Every word that he spoke equates to the truth. Soo-Hyun is married to Soo Eun-Soo (Yoon Se Ah) and they have a son named Baek Yeon Woo.
The rising action began when Soo-Hyun is in contact with Yoon Dong-Pil because he wants to get the original copy of a ledger that would unveil the bribery and corruption happening in government authorities.
Moreover, big people are also eyeing this ledger including President Seo, national assemblyman Hwang Tae-Seop and news station director Kwon Yeo-Jin.
Miscommunication arises when Dong-Pil thought that Soo-Hyun betrayed him, that’s why he threatened to kidnap Yeon-Woo. During a party at the Royal the Hill residence, Yeon-Woo was kidnapped, and eventually, a body of a dead boy was found.
Added to this, after several days, Dong-Pil was also found dead in Soo-Hyun’s car with a suicide note that he killed Jun-Young.
It was revealed that the boy that was found is Yeon-Woo’s friend, Jun-Young, who is the son of Cha Seo-Young (Kim Hye Eun) and Choi Nam-Gyu (Ahn Nae Sang). That one tragedy during that night, change the lives of the people who live in Royal the Hill.

Hidden Secrets
The drama has a wide scope of actors in the series. If you would watch it, the storyline doesn’t only focus on the main characters but on the connection, they have with other people.
Each character has their desires and secrets that they have kept for a long time. However, in the drama, these secrets are slowly revealed with lots of riddles. It’s like the viewers should be the one gathering all the pieces of evidence about the secrets that the character have.
Throughout the 12 episodes, specifically episodes 1-10 narrated the happenings before Jun-Young’s death. During this time, the secrets of the characters along with their greed and desires were reflected. I can say that what’s keep thrilling in the drama is the catch of uncovering the vileness of these rich people.
Reflects the Desires of Human Beings
More than their secrets, The Road: Tragedy of One has a deep lesson for their viewers. The drama brings to light the common desires of a human being, starting from the love of money and the greediness to be on top.
It also reflects how human beings would do nasty things just to fulfill these unnecessary desires. Even though there are lots of dramas that have the same lesson to share with their audiences, I think the participation of the kids makes it more even realistic.
In the drama, Yeon-woo became blind because of psychological trauma after the death of his friend, Jun-Young. This reflects that children who are exposed to things that are not suited for them to witness cause them long-term trauma and stress. This can be an awakening to the parents that children should be taken care of properly so that they can enjoy what normal children do.
The Road: Tragedy of One Series Musings
To be honest, The Road: Tragedy of One is the first heavy drama that I’ve watched. For me, it’s full of heavy scenes, so if you want a light drama wherein you can laugh then I recommend you to skip this one.
On a lighter note, if you want something that is deep and you’re into mystery and a thrilling chase then the drama would meet your expectations. I think the plot hardly focused on the greed and secrets of the characters. It’s also kind of vague because most of them didn’t admit their mistakes, the viewers became the judge about their wrongdoings.
Moreover, I gave it quite a low score because I think the plot could have been made better, though the actors are good, some scenes can still be improved.
Nevertheless, the lessons that the drama depicts made me realize that our choices play a big part in how we live.
Some choices can have long-term effects that would keep hunting us down and makes us regretful on why did we do it in the first place. I also realized that there are desires that would ruin our lives and make other people suffer.
