Following the success of the thriller Hellbound, Netflix is reuniting with director Yeon Sang-ho and writer Choi Gyu-seok to adapt another gripping comic, Revelations.
Revelations centers on a pastor and a detective, each driven by their convictions. The pastor feels divinely ordained to punish the culprit behind a missing person case, while the detective is tormented by visions of her deceased sister.
Yeon and Choi, acclaimed for their innovative exploration of life and death in Hellbound, are set to captivate audiences once more with Revelations. Yeon’s work often delves into human nature amidst chaos, challenging viewers to reflect on religion, humanity, belief, and morality.
Choi, known for his keen insight into social issues and immersive storytelling, last showcased in Awl, collaborates again with Yeon. The film, based on their 2022 comic, promises a thought-provoking narrative from this visionary pair.
Ryu Jun Yeol (The 8 Show) stars as Min-chan, a pastor in a small town who believes he has received a divine revelation identifying the man who abducted his son. Consumed by his quest for justice, Min-chan oscillates between genuine faith and harsh reality. Shin Hyun Been (Hospital Playlist and Reborn Rich) portrays Yeon-hee, a detective on the trail of the suspect and the suspicious pastor. Haunted by her sister’s tragic death, Yeon-hee relentlessly pursues the truth, adding tension to the story.
Alfonso Cuarón, the acclaimed director of Gravity and Roma, joins as an executive producer.
“Alfonso Cuarón, known for masterpieces like ‘Children of Men’ and ‘Gravity,’ has greatly influenced my work as a director,” Yeon remarks. “I am thrilled to collaborate with him on ‘Revelations,’ and I have high expectations for our partnership.”
The film is produced by WOW POINT, a global content company active in Korea, the US, and Japan. Their recent projects include the Netflix series The Bequeathed, a Korean-style mystery thriller, and Parasyte: The Grey, adapted from the legendary Japanese manga “Parasyte.” As WOW POINT states: “With two globally renowned creators coming together, we sincerely hope that ‘Revelations’ will thrill audiences worldwide.”
