Yoon Shi Yoon To Play Forward-Thinking Priest In Film “Birth”

Production company Raphael Pictures affirmed the production of the feature film Birth, bannered by Yoon Shi Yoon.

Commemorating the 200th anniversary of Father Kim Taegon, Yoon Shi Yoon is set to portray the revered religious figure. He is the first Korean-born Catholic priest and is the patron saint of Korean clergy. He was canonized and named Saint Andrew Kim in 1984 by Pope John Paul II.

Rounding up the cast are Ahn Sung Ki, Lee Moon Sik, Shin Jung Geun and Nam Da Reum.

Father Kim traveled the sea and land to open the path of modern Joseon. The film Birth traces the life of young Kim Taegon from being born up to his martyrdom.

The respected priest is one of the first innovative Koreans who learned Western languages, studied Western ideas, and thought with new concepts.

Bringing life to young priest Kim Taegon who has a unique perspective and strong willpower is Yoon Shi Yoon.

Birth

In the backdrop of the Opium war, the movie traces Father Kim’s study in Macau. Crossing the West sea onboard Raphael, the movie will also cover his land entry through Manchuria. It will also feature the scene of pioneering the sea entry route through Baengnyeong Island.

Birth is fully supported by the Korean Catholic Church. Coincidentally, this month also celebrates the feast day of Saint Andrew Kim which is every September 20th.

Spearheading the production is Director Park Heung Sik (The Twins, Second 20’s). Filming commences this year in November, aiming for a November 2022 release date.

The production team plans to vividly show the adventurous scenes that take up the major part of Kim Taegon’s life with live-action and VFX technology.

Accordingly, the production team discovered many new aspects of Saint Andrew Kim through comprehensive data research. Thus, a high-quality work that reflects the historical significance of Kim Taegon should be anticipated.
