Iconic girl group Girls’ Generation marked a new milestone with their music return today, August 5!
Aside from celebrating their 15th debut anniversary, Girls’ Generation also unveils their 7th full album FOREVER 1.
Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun convene to meet the press at InterContinental COEX in Gangnam, Seoul.
Returning as a complete group after five years since their 2017 album Holiday Night, the girls aim to give a “forever promise” with their latest music.
They prepared cool songs full of summer freshness that fans will love.
Featuring 10 tracks, the title track follows the album name. “Forever 1” is a pop dance song with a dynamic music arrangement and energetic melody.
Girls’ Generation’s unique mellifluous singing provides an exciting vibe reminiscent of a music festival.
Notably, the lyrics have added special meaning by expressing the eternal love for the precious people who give strength to them anytime, anywhere.
Sooyoung explained the reason for releasing a new album on the 15th anniversary.
“We’ve been discussing the comeback story since our 14th anniversary, and we feel like we want to release a full-length album properly. So, we prepared with a little more leeway.”
As it is an album with extraordinary meaning, it also retrospect the feel of SNSD’s debut song “Into The New World”. Sooyoung adds their intention to have a song that everyone can sing along to.
In the music video of FOREVER 1, Girls’ Generation’s 15-year history and the meaning of commemorating it are beautifully captured.
Profoundly giving details about the video, Seohyun explained:
“We work in our own space and we get together in one taxi. Such a worldview expresses us, who worked hard in our respective projects for five years, met again and shouted FOREVER 1.”
Echoing the same feelings of fellow members, Sunny shared:
“From this teaser to the jacket and music video, it feels like celebrating the 15th anniversary of what we’ve been doing so far.”
As much as the fans missed Girls’ Generation’s comeback, Girls’ Generation also missed their activities and each member very much.
Sooyoung fondly recalls their younger years and compares their growth at present.
“In the past, we were in one fence, so we could collect them whenever we wanted. When we get back together, it feels more like a group of ‘swindlers’ rather than a feeling of family.
The concentration has changed. Everyone feels like a pro. When we got back together, the members were full of responsibility, and we all felt the craftsmanship.”
As the longest-reigning active girl group in Korea, they also express the secret of Girls’ Generation’s longevity.
Conveying her heartfelt thought that represents the group; Yuri felt grateful for having the group together for a long time. She also affirms how they’ve all become stronger because they got each other’s back.
Agreeing with Yuri, Taeyeon expounds on that idea.
“Girls’ Generation is a fan of Girls’ Generation. It’s not easy to gather the opinions of eight girls, but we like the group so much and we want to protect each other, so the purpose seems to have come to this moment.”
When asked about the group’s future endeavors, leader Taeyeon express opting to go with how they are doing right now, focusing on their present activities as a group and solo artists.
“I have been working as an individual for 5 years and have been working together, so I don’t have time to think about the past or the future. Right now is so important. I didn’t even think about future plans.”
