Count Your Lucky Stars Episode 4 Recap
-
“Do you think I only got you to look out after me? Get out!”
Worried Xiaoyou spots Wen Xi spouting how she rushes to the hospital upon learning Xingcheng’s accident. Suiting up to her job role Xiaoyou dismisses the reporters crowding the hospital.
Xingcheng wakes up to his story state just as Xiaoyou enters the room blabbing nonstop. Annoyed, he orders her to step out of his room. Before she went out, she brings some food to his reach making him sulk because he was hoping for a drink.
Intent to take advantage of the trending bad news on Xingcheng, the deputy editor pesters the CEO, but to no avail. Meanwhile, Daly visits his workaholic boss in the hospital to deliver more bad news. Apparently his stocks and money are looking bad.
Realizing he has no use there, Daly cheers for his recovery and leaves. Later, Xingcheng tells him to find a cheaper hospital for his remaining confinement.
Back at CHIC magazine office, Xiaoyou is being pressed by the deputy editor for the Lu Ren interview even if she told her that Xingcheng does not like it.

“Olympic, come here. Was I not clear enough? Please sort this trash now!”
Obviously annoyed at the sight of his guests and their gifts, Xingcheng tells Xiaoyou to call Daly. She explains the heavy workload Daly has while organizing his things to prep for his transfer. Her boss gets grumpier and replies if she is willing to pay for the hospital bills when she asked why he wants to transfer.
Ever the optimist, Xiaoyou relates his life to a traffic light and genuinely cheers that everything will work out well.
Because Xingcheng’s mind is wired differently, he took it like she thinks he is desperate. Yanzhi who can’t stand their bickering offered his credit card to shield Xiaoyou.

It made Xingcheng more irritated throwing his anger on the credit card and their gifts. Extinguishing another bout of brawl, Xiaoyou quickly drags Yanzhi out.
Heaving a sigh of frustration, Yanzhi reminds her to stay away from people like Xingcheng. He tells her not to hesitate if she needs help with her work. That reminds Xiaoyou of her task to interview Lu Ren.
Hearing how his mother shouted at her when she asked for the interview, Yanzhi suggests going to the school directly and offers to go with her.

“I never imagined that like your work, your cooking would also be disappointing.”
Softly chiding her boss for being rude earlier, Xingcheng stubbornly responds hating to deal with crap.
Using her reckless driving incident as a leverage for her to assist him, Xiaoyou becomes his human crutches to relieve himself to the rest room.
After packing some food, Ru Ru points out the seemingly exchange of luck between her and Xingcheng. But Xiaoyou think it is absurd since she can’t get lucky to score an interview with Lu Ren.
Rushing out to bring food to her grumpy boss, her effort is as usual criticized by Xingcheng, who realized her clumsy nature at work extends to her cooking.
Reminding her of his hospital transfer, she assures him that she got it covered and proceeds to peel some apples for him.

“If apologies have any use, why do the police exist?”
Still yet to fully recover, Xingcheng goes to a temple with Xiaoyou and tests his luck with lucky straws.
After three attempts, his bad luck of picking the short ones are consistent. That is contrary to Xiaoyou who got the long straws.
Xingcheng walks out with Xiayou in tow. He grumbles how she might have put a curse on him. But she quickly assures him that she might have not always say good things about him, but she has not gone to the dark side ever.
Shooing her away, Xiaoyou accidentally slips, but Xingcheng’s quick reflexes inadvertently protected her. However, he ends up falling in the nearby pool.

When he woke up, he asks for Xiaoyou who rushes to his side – but accidentally bumps his hand hard with her wheelchair.
Acknowledging her fault, she says sorry but Xingcheng quickly rebuts how police is not needed if apologies are easily accepted.
Xiaoyou asks him when his unlucky streak started and he is quick to respond that it began after meeting her. Agreeing to that truth, she vows that she will take care of him until he is discharged in the hospital.

“Wasn’t it you who said you would take care of me?”
Yanzhi visits Xiaoyou in the hospital upon learning she got hurt. Knowing the two guys are not in a friendly zone, Xiaoyou quickly proceeds to meet Yanzhi outside the room.
Wary of the warning stares thrown by Xingcheng from his room’s door, Xiaoyou quickly diverts Yanzhi’s attention, and drags him to the cafe.
Another bout of bickering ensues for Xingcheng and Xiaoyou. Convincing her boss of all the efforts she has done for him, she asserts he should not get mad at her.
Reminding her about the promise she made, he returns the rant he unfairly received and orders her to go away again.

“All you have to do is kiss him again.”
Arriving home from the busted meet up with Professor Lu Ren, she listens to Ru Ru’s theory of how her bad luck has taken a favorable turn.
On cue, she receives a call from Yanzhi who delivers a good news of her chance for an interview with the professor. Going back to her discussion with Ru Ru, her friend thinks that something physical has triggered the exchange of luck.
Remembering the kiss they accidentally shared, Ru Ru adorably squeals. Still dwelling on her unfathomable situation, she is genuinely unhappy at the thought of Xingcheng’s luckless spree.
Considering the problems she caused and all the help he gave her, Xiaoyou makes up her mind to help him out of the mess.
Taunting her determination, Ru Ru challenges her plan – because what’s at stake is for her to kiss him again.

“That is because we kissed! It changed everything.”
The next day Xiaoyou, meets her boss and relays the theory she had drawn out with her friend last night. Not buying her ludicrous idea, he drags her out of his room.
Separated by the hospital door, Xiaoyou continues to run down all the situations proving the exchange of their luck. Still not buying her pitches, Xingcheng makes faces but stops when he notices Xiaoyou faints again.
Regaining consciousness, Xingcheng throws a box of candy to her and commands her to bring it all the time with her. She realizes that her boss was her savior last time against the wily artist.
Picking up from the conversation they left off, Xingcheng still refuses her absurd idea.

Episode 4 Musings
That Dao Ming Si catch phrase totally made me smile this episode. When I signed up for Count Your Lucky Stars, I hesitated a little because I am used to Korean drama structure.
This series actually reminds me of Something About 1% (2016). That series, I really enjoyed because it was presented in a way that viewers will enjoy the quick but overflowing cute vibe each episode.
Count Your Lucky Stars has no room for fillers. Something that if not smartly executed would ruin the fun of the rom-com.
So far, the story is progressing smoothly whilst building character connections. Building back stories and weaving conflicts are also brought on in an orchestrated manner and swift manner.
I must admit that a second lead syndrome is in the horizon. There are moments when my heart wavers at the sight of Wei Zhe Ming, but Jerry Yan is quick to subdue it.
Xiayou looks keen to fulfill her promise to help her unwilling boss. But is her boss unwilling to believe her because of the absurdity of the idea or because he subconsciously cares for her deeply?
Stay tuned for episode 5 recap of Count Your Lucky Stars!
