After months of growing anticipation, global superstars IU and Byeon Woo Seok are officially set to headline Perfect Crown, a brand-new Korean original series premiering exclusively on Disney+ in 2026.
The announcement was made during the 2025 Disney+ Originals Preview held at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, where The Walt Disney Company unveiled an exciting slate of upcoming Asian and global content.
Perfect Crown is set in a reimagined version of modern-day Korea—one that operates under a constitutional monarchy. The romantic comedy follows Grand Prince Wan, the people’s beloved royal figure, who suddenly finds himself caught in a fierce power struggle within the palace.
With mounting pressure to settle down, he enters a strategic marriage of convenience with Heeju, the poised and business-savvy heir to one of Korea’s largest conglomerates. Though the pair agrees to work together for mutual gain, their carefully controlled plan quickly unravels as emotions, politics, and unexpected complications collide.
Formerly titled Wife of a 21st Century Grand Prince, the series stars IU (When Life Gives You Tangerines, My Mister) as Heeju, a sharp and capable chaebol heir, and Byeon Woo Seok (Lovely Runner, Strong Girl Nam Soon) as Grand Prince Wan, a royal navigating charm, duty, and rising tensions at court. The drama is helmed by acclaimed director Park Joonhwa, known for hits like Alchemy of Souls and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, with a script written by Yu Ain.
The Disney+ Originals Preview event, held on November 13, highlighted the platform’s expanding investment in Korean, Japanese, and global storytelling.
