[INTERVIEW] Choi Tae Joon Shares His Experiences & Role Preparations In “So I Married The Anti-Fan”

Choi Tae Joon recently talked about his thoughts and experiences in embodying and accepting the role of Hoo Joon. 

In the story, we all see how Choi Soo Young (Lee Geun Young) despises Hoo Joon and blames him for being the reason why she got fired.

Geun Young, having that kind attitude can attain the title as an “anti-fan” and this is where the story of two different people collides. 

Good news to the drama’s fans as the lead stars recently shared their thoughts about the series. Choi Tae Joon also responded to questions about his preparations and experiences in filming the drama.

Choi Tae Joon Sees Similarities Between Him and Character Hoo Joon

In grasping the personality of Hoo Joon, the actor excitedly relayed some similarities that he and Hoo Joon shared.

He honestly said that just like Hoo Joon, he also loves playing games and eagerly waits for its release. Another thing is that he also likes his pork to be dipped in sweet and sour sauce!

However, having similarities, Tae Joon initially hesitated to take to the role of Hoo Joon who is a singer. He admitted that he’s not really into singing and dancing which makes him worried about having a good connection with the audience. 

“I am quite afraid to play a singer. I usually don’t really like singing and dancing, so I’m worried that the audience will feel disconnected from my portrayal of Hoo-Joon. It’s pressuring.”

Preparations Made By Choi Tae Joon in Accepting the Role

When asked what are his preparations and impressions in personifying Hoo Joon after reading the script, he said that he felt a bit of pressure.

To effectively dress up as a top star, he carefully studied Hoo Joon’s emotions and how he interacts with the people around him. Tae Joon gladly accepted the challenge of being a top star celebrity. 

Moreover, he is very thankful to the K-pop singers who he worked with and helped him in dancing and practicing his vocals. 

He also conveyed that he worked and practiced hard so that the viewers will not find him awkward since his role of being a K-pop idol has been a new challenge for him.

“It couldn’t compare to the amount of training that singers do, but I worked hard and practiced whenever I had time so that the viewers won’t find me awkward. However, it seemed like it was not that easy (Laughs). The outcome of the scenes still turned out great, thanks to the director and the production crew.”

Thoughts After Being Discharged from the Military

Since “So I Married The Anti-Fan”  is Choi’s comeback drama, he sincerely thanked the fans for waiting for him and supporting the drama. 

The actor is also able to share his experiences during his military days. 

“My biggest change is probably developing the habit of sleeping and waking up early. In the past, I was used to my work pace, so I would sleep late even if I didn’t have any jobs. But lately, I’ve been sleeping very early, so my lifestyle has become more disciplined.”


Opening His Door To Many Projects

The actor confirmed that he is ready for new projects.

This opens a new opportunity for him as an actor because he will be able to play the role that he wants to try and also explore the character that his fans would want to see.

Venturing from one role to another will let him experience a new acting spectrum.


Advocacy on Fabricating News in the Media

When asked about Tae Joon’s take on the discussion about news being fabricated online and anti-fans saying harsh words in many people in the entertainment industry he said that:

“I think that as society develops, it’s even more necessary to take responsibility for our words and actions. Your comments may seem like jokes to some people, but please stand in the shoes of the people being attacked and think about how depressing and terrible they must feel.”

The drama successfully tells their audience that they should not easily believe everything they see online.

Moreover, Tae Joon claimed that it’s better to not be a source of fabricated news because this may have a long-run effect on the people involved. 


Why Viewers Should Not Miss Out His Drama

Knowing Choi Tae Joon’s warm personality, one main reason for us to watch this drama is that the production crew, director, and actors all worked hard for the series.

They all had fun while filming the drama to make it worthy of the viewer’s time. He said that the atmosphere on the set was very relaxing and joyful.

More importantly, Tae Joon had a great time teaming up with Sooyoung and said that they have the time to know each other more besides being graduating in the same class together during college. 

“We often couldn’t hold in our laughter, so we messed up a lot. During filming, we added in some of our thoughts and improvisations according to the situation, which enhanced the scenes even more. It was because of her help that I was able to perform much more at ease. Thank you, Sooyoung.”


Tae-Joon’s Favorite Scene in the Drama

The actor said that the scene that leaves the deepest impression on him is when Geun Young confirms her feelings for Hoo-Joon. 

The scene gave a clear answer to the lovers and fans are all happy with the outcome, because finally, the two are able to admit their feelings towards each other.

Lastly, in the interview when asked that if he will spend 24 hours with one person, who would he pick and Tae-Joon said that:

“I want to spend my time with my family. Lately, it has been hard for us to gather due to the pandemic. I especially miss my family and friends at a time like this.”
