INTERVIEW: Hwang Min Hyun Appreciates The Experience Gained In “Alchemy of Souls”

Decorating the character of Seo Yul in Alchemy of Souls, Hwang Min Hyun has surely impressed viewers with his growth as an actor.

The singer-actor imparts that the series is a work that he will never forget.

Notably, his devotion to Nak-su whom he shared fond young love memories beautifully escalated to a remarkable second-lead syndrome.

After the riveting final episode of the first part of the series, Alchemy of Souls will return for a second installment. The tightly-knit narrative has brought out the best in its cast, particularly Hwang Min Hyun.

As such, in an interview, Hwang fondly recalls his favorite experiences and shares interesting stories.

Favorite Memories and Experiences

Grateful for the guidance of director Park and Hong sisters, Hwang Min Hyun acknowledged how it helped him grow and give a better performance for the viewers.

“It was an honor to be a part of Alchemy of Souls. It will be an unforgettable work for the rest of my life, and I am also thankful to Seo Yul.”

In describing his character, the actor is on point on telling Seo Yul’s rational mind and objective decision. On that note, he shares how he made sure that his dilemma was felt by the audience.

“I have tried to immerse the viewer in the areas of conflict and anguish between the rules, beliefs and chastity that my character wanted to uphold.”

Challenging a role that requires a lot of action scenes, Hwang Min Hyun also disclosed the preparations they made.

From the training they got at action school before officially filming, he said the guidance of the martial arts director and co-stars helped him enjoy the shoot.

“At first, the action scenes were unfamiliar, but I grew more eager to digest all the action sequences myself, so I worked hard and diligently. I wonder if dancing and memorizing steps for a long time helped me to memorize the action scene quickly.”

When asked about how he expressed his emotional lines, the actor realistically responds that his character does not have many emotional ups and downs.

But he paid attention to expressing Seo Yul’s emotions through his movements, glances and breathing so as not to break the emotions when he was expressing his lines.

Seo Yul’s Journey In Alchemy of Souls

In the story, Seo Yul made a sacrifice to let go of Mu-deok. The actor was queried if he will do the same as his character and he responds gallantly.

“I think that the happiness of the person I like is my happiness, so I will support her with who she loves and be a strong supporter of them.”

Sharing his favorite moments in Alchemy of Souls, Hwang Min Hyun picked the scenes where he is in mixed emotions about the friendship he had with Jang Wook and his fondness for Mu-deok.

Dubbed Daeho F4 with fellow actors Lee Jae Wook, Shin Seung Ho and Yoo In Soo; the bromance was especially enjoyed by viewers.

He shares that the arduous filming in cold winter and hot summer was bearable because the shoot was enjoyable for the actors. As the hyung to the three who are the same age; they talk and meet well. They also receive advice from the deep pool of seasoned and talented actors in the cast.

On his biggest takeaway from Alchemy of Souls, Hwang Min Hyun is more than grateful for everything.

“Filming Alchemy of Souls has increased the joy of acting for me. I learned a lot from watching the actors I was working with, and I realized what I was good at and what I lacked. Thus, I definitely knew what I needed to grow in the future.”

Lastly, he thanks the viewers for their love and support for the series. Although sad at the tragic ending of the first part of the series, he invites viewers to wait for part 2 of the series.

“Thanks to the love of many people, it will be a work that I will never forget. I hope that you will also remember Alchemy of Souls for a long time.I would also like to ask for a lot of attention and anticipation for Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow.”
