Sell Your Haunted House Opening Week Story
Specializing in selling properties that are previously haunted, Great Real Estate needs a psychic to aid the company CEO, Hong Ji Ah (Jang Nara), who exorcises the spirits. Enter Oh In-bum a con artist with psychic powers who agree to work with her.
Ji-a and In-bum reach the same direction when an officetel Great Real Estate intends to acquire becomes the con artist’s next cash cow.
Unaware of Ji-a’s supernatural ability, In-bum and his business partner Heo Ji-chul set up the usual scary routine in the building space they failed to get.
But soon they get disconnected as Ji-a begins clearing the conjoined ghost in the building. After defeating one ghost, Ji-a prepares to strike the other ghost but it moved to In-bum who turns out to be a psychic. A powerful one since he can also absorb fragments of memories from a spirit. He can also bring warmth to Ji-a who feels cold after vanquishing unrested spirit for good.
Ji-a’s Badly Needed Psychic
The thought of In-bum nags on Ji-a since he was able to absorb the cold energy after her last exorcism. She thinks he could help put her mom’s spirit to rest. Likewise, In-bum is bothered on what Ji-a mentioned about seeing glimpses of memories from the spirit’s past.
He gets magically transported to the house of the spirit which possessed him previously. Later on, he finds himself in front of the house like a habit. Ji-a haunting him like a spirit is not helping at all. The two again meet at the same house of the last spirit they subdued with Ji-a bringing a letter of the deceased to his father.
Their paths cross again when Ji-a pursued an unrested spirit which led her to a rumored haunted museum. The owner of the museum is In-bum’s current fraud target. To avoid failing his current scam, In-bum agrees to help Ji-a with her request.
Cutely thinking something steamy might happen, In-bum’s wild imagination skyrocketed when she was asked to go to Ji-a’s room. Unknown to him, she is testing if she is the cure to her life issue of not being able to quell her mom’s vengeful spirit.
However, it did not work out. But it unearthed a cryptic memory of In-bum and how his uncle died hinting to involve Ji-a’s mom. With an ulterior motive to know the truth behind his uncle’s death, In-bum strikes a deal with Ji-a to work with her as a psychic.
Sell Your Haunted House Opening Week Musings
A bundle of sassy and spooky moods, Sell Your Haunted House reminds me of the great time I had with The Master’s Sun. Jang Nara’s deviation from her usual warm roles especially the part when she bickers with her ghost mom really made my day.
Notably, the highlighted stories of the unrested spirits are also well-contrived blending with sensible conviction to the main leads’ character introductions. Moreover, it also provides lingering lessons for viewers to ruminate on.
I just realized that in my history of watching his K-Dramas, Jung Yong Hwa has not let me down yet in his portrayals. In fact, his last drama, The Package, prior to his military service is a personal favorite. Heading to the same result in his new series is highly possible since the series vaunted an impressive premiere week.
Ghost-dispelling activities by the lead pairing are expected in future episodes. Ultimately, the connection between Ji-a’s mom and In-bum’s uncle will be a key point to watch.
