Slated for tonight’s premiere, Kokdu: Season of Deity held an online production presentation earlier with the cast and production crew.
Kokdu: Season of Deity chronicles the story of Kokdu (Kim Jung Hyun), the “god of death” who comes down to the earth every 99 years to punish humans. He meets Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang) a doctor with mysterious abilities.
Director Baek Soo Chan and actors Kim Jung Hyun, Im Soo Hyang, Kim Da Som, Ahn Woo Yeon, Kim In Kwon, and Cha Cheong Hwa graced the event.
Kim Jung Hyun’s Return To MBC Camp
Five years ago, the actor got embroiled in a controversy when he starred in the drama, Time. Taking the opportunity to acknowledge his past misbehavior, as soon as he got the microphone for his greeting, he bowed respectfully and apologize. He also expressed appreciation for his costars and eagerness to present his new work.
“When choosing a work, the script is important, but in my case, I am grateful to the MBC officials who reached out to me first during the short or long time of self-reflection. It’s an opportunity to become stronger. From the beginning of the work, I was personally worried that I would hurt the team or that there could be problems. I came back to MBC after 5 years I am really grateful to have this drama presentation. No matter what I say or add, the word that shines in my heart seems to be ‘thank you.’ I think it comes first.”
He also expressed appreciation for his costars and eagerness to present his new work.
“Thanks to the help and support of my colleagues, I was able to relieve my tension. I prepared hard with a grateful heart. So, I hope you appreciate it nicely.”
Relaying his preparations for his dual roles, Kim Jung Hyun explained the contrast he made.
“I tried to give each character’s voice tone or subtle internal changes to play three people. Moving on to the present, it is difficult to distinguish between Do Jin-woo and Kok-du externally. In the case of Kok-du, I tried to act more exaggeratedly and freely, For Do Jin-woo, he is a goal-oriented person, so I tried to act in a calm and restrained manner.”
Im Soo Hyang’s Dream Role
Completing the lead pairing for Kokdu: Season of Deity is the beautiful and versatile Im Soo Hyang.
In a previous interview, she revealed really wanted to work on a fantasy-romance drama.
“I wanted to try a fantasy romance. The script itself was interesting, and I had a relationship with director Baek Soo-chan when I was young, so I gladly accepted the invitation. With strong colleagues, there was no reason not to do it. This is my first historical drama. It was a challenge, but it was so much fun.”
The actress also praised her leading man for his character immersion which also helped her focus. Adorably agreeing to her goal of Best Drama Couple in the year-end awards, Kim Jung Hyun also happily confessed that he was comfortable working with Im Soo Hyang.
