The Mysterious Class Episode 1 Key Moments

“A blackout and rain . . . It’s like a horror movie.”

Late at night, in the teacher’s office at school, the homeroom teacher for class 4 is trying to fix up a mistake made by an examiner. He has only received twenty results from his mock exam, but has twenty-one students in his class. When he calls to follow up, the lady is absolutely sure she grabbed them all and double-checked, but says she will make sure for him.

The power suddenly goes out in the teacher’s office, with the light on the desk going out and a loud bang coming from out in the hallway. When the homeroom teacher goes to check, he finds an open window. After closing and locking the window, he remarks that it’s just like a horror movie before he hears another loud bang.

Back in the classroom, Yedam and Hyunsuk are trying to cast a spell for a bunshinsaba to find out if they’re in the room. Ten other students (the other ten members of Treasure) watch on.

As the scene from the trailer plays out, the pen suddenly reaches towards the O out of the O and the X. Loud thunder and bright lightning strike from outside and send the twelve boys running.

Out of the classroom and in the staircase, however, the boys come across the collapsed body of their homeroom teacher, laying at the bottom of the staircase.

“It was you guys, wasn’t it?”

The next day, vlogger Junghwan of the YouTube Channel Super King Cow Baby TV introduces us to his Class 4 classmates.

First, there is the top student of the school, Jaehyuk, who tells him to go away so he can continue studying. Next are two of the trendiest students, Haruto and Junkyu, who wave vigorously at the camera. Then, there’s the handsome Jihoon, who asks if he’s being filmed for a vlog. This is followed up by the person who is remarked as the Michael Jordan of Class 4, as we’re introduced to Jeongwoo, who showcases his shooting style.

Next up are the two best-looking students in the class, Yoshinori and Asahi (who ignore the camera). As Hyunsuk walks in and up beside Mashiho, Junghwan refers to them as the two “kiddos” of the class, as they are the two shortest members. Sitting beside Mashiho, we’re introduced to Yedam, the future rising K-pop star who is listening to the demo he’s submitting for his monthly evaluation.

As Junghwan ends his vlog, Hyunsuk and Mashiho question what happened to their homeroom teacher, and Yedam mentions that it’s a possibility that he was pushed.

Outside the classroom, Doyoung is on the phone with the homeroom teacher, who is currently in the hospital. The homeroom teacher has been recommended to stay in hospital for fifteen days, which is not long enough to get in a substitute teacher. As class president, Doyoung is told not to cause trouble, as the teacher doesn’t want his absence blamed for anything.

Back in the classroom, Yedam is still listening to his demo of ‘Wayo’ and finds a weird noise in it. He immediately blames Jihoon, known for making practical jokes, who vehemently denies it, and claims he doesn’t even know what a demo is.

As Doyoung comes back into the classroom, he explains the situation. He has been left in charge as there won’t be a substitute. Jaehyuk stands up and asks if there is any more information or if he can leave. There is a clear tension between the two of them.

As students from another class walk in, two of them talk about how cold the temperature is in the classroom, and that one of them can see his breath. When one of the students asks if the teacher was hurt, Doyoung says yes, and tells them to study on their own.

“This is what you’d serve for ancestral rites.”

Outside, Junkyu is completing his classroom duties, collecting milk for all of the students. The teacher outside recognizes that Junkyu is taking twenty-one cartons of milk, instead of the twenty listed on the roll. Junkyu places one of the pints of milk back, as Haruto comes out to help. Junkyu begins to wonder if there really are only twenty people in the class.

At lunch, Jeongwoo jokes about the quality of the food, claiming it’s what you’d serve at ancestral rites. Hyunsuk jokes that the ghosts will come out if they hear him, to which Jeongwoo replies that he would just fight them off.

Junghwan vlogs himself eating lunch, and the other students recognize that none of his videos ever seem to get more than ten views. Meanwhile, Yedam has to go through each layer of his song to find out which file is corrupted with the wrong sound on it.

While putting his dishes away, Doyoung overhears the cafeteria lady mentioning that one of the students didn’t eat any of their lunch, essentially wasting their food, and his interest piques.

After lunch, students from another class ask if they want to play soccer. Jaehyuk leaves, recognizing that without him there are eleven other students, as he would rather spend his time studying. After the game, students from the other class are embarrassed that they lost. Somehow, the Treasure team managed to win, even though they had one less player. When Jeongwoo mentions they had eleven players as well, the students from the other side said that they only had ten. Doyoung’s interest piques again, as Jeongwoo heads back into the class to find out if someone left in the middle of the game.

Inside, Junghwan mentions that even Asahi – who hates soccer – played the entire game. The Treasure students are also completely sure that they had eleven players, and no one can figure out why the other team thought differently.

“My milk . . . My milk is gone!”

Mashiho is looking around the classroom, as it turns out that his milk never arrived, and that everyone has milk instead of him. When Hyunsuk mentions that nothing will happen if he doesn’t have his milk, Mashiho says that it’s important for him to drink his milk, as his growth plates are still open. When Mashiho asks why Junkyu didn’t get him milk, Junkyu responds by saying the teacher said there were only twenty people in the class.

Junkyu finds the class roll, which states there are twenty-one students in the class. Hyunsuk asks what if there are only supposed to be twenty students in the class. But everyone just moves on with their day.

In the teacher’s office, Doyoung notices that there are only supposed to be twenty students in the class. He has flashbacks to the opening scene where the bunshinsaba answered their spell. And other students mentioned the classroom was cold. Even the cafeteria lady remarked a student not eating their food. He’s about to call his homeroom teacher, before he remembers him mentioning not to cause any trouble.

Doyoung heads back into the class and tells his classmates that they are officially listed as 20 students in the class. However, there is a student in the class who can only be seen by classmates and the homeroom teacher. Mashiho asks if there is a ghost amongst them, and Jeongwoo calls out for him not to say that. Hyunsuk mentions the bunshinsaba again.

As the mystery unfolds, Doyoung mentions there are twenty-one people in the class right now. However, the other team only saw ten people playing soccer when there were apparently eleven on the field. This means that one of the eleven people playing soccer is the ghost.

A frightened Yedam suddenly calls out and throws his headphones to the ground in anguish. As the class looks at him, the sound of the word ‘bunshinsaba’ comes out of his tablet as he finds the corrupted audio file.
