As a masked man in Squid Game, Wi Ha Joon conveyed his appreciation for the success of the series.
Netflix original series, Squid Game, chronicles participants in a cryptic survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion dollar. Players stake their lives to be the lone winner in the extreme game.
Meanwhile, Ha Joon disguises himself as one of the masked man to find out his brother’s whereabouts. He also tries to reveal the truths of the game.
Wi Ha Joon recently expressed how unexpected the viewers would respond about the series in a video interview with Spotify News.
“I thought that many viewers would like it, but I did not expect such a reaction. The production crew, and actors are all great people, so I wanted to participate. I did my best, and I am honored and happy to be able to participate like this.”
Portraying Hwang Jun-ho in Squid Game
Concerning his role as Jun-ho, Ha Joon speaks of how his character illustrates the audience’s situation from an observer’s viewpoint.
“Jun-ho is not a character that can digest a lot, but he has his narrative and story, and I was attracted to the role that introduces the situation to the viewers from an observer’s point of view. I think Jun-ho had to find his older brother from the position of infiltrating, and he had to record and show what happened in it, so the part of maintaining tension and inner acting were important. He paid a lot of attention to this part.”
He was constantly conversing with Director Hwang Dong Hyuk to demonstrate his character well.
“Jun-ho is an honest and upright character. He is the person with the most sense of justice in the game, so we talked about this with the director.”
On making the utmost effort
Recollecting among all of his renditions behind the screen, the English dialogues were the most complicated for Ha Joon. He also added that it was a problematic scene because many foreign actors appeared.
“I had a lot of trouble because I couldn’t speak English well. An English teacher corrects pronunciation, and director Hwang Dong Hyuk has gone to study abroad and is fluent in English.”
Besides this, he admits it was challenging filming the scuba diving scene.
“There were no physical difficulties when acting, but the skin scuba was really hard. I have a severe phobia of water and it took a lot of training to overcome it.”
Furthermore, Ha Joon evaluates his sentiments on acting as a lonesome host.
“While breathing with his seniors, he wanted to make memories and eat together. But most of the scenes were filmed alone. He felt lonely and burdened by the thought of leading the gods. I finished well because many staff and the director guided me well.”
Working with Lee Byung Hun
In this series. Wi Ha Joon imparts various feelings in working for the first time with his senior.
“I knew in advance that Lee Byung Hun would appear. I was thrilled, excited, and honored because it was a senior I liked so much. I was moved because he approached me in a friendly way outside of filming. The atmosphere on set was also good. He tried to do well in line with the director’s direction, thinking that he shouldn’t be someone to seniors.”
He also implies his admiration for Lee Byung Hun during the interview.
“I like and respect Lee Byung Hun. He paid great attention to that part, so he referred to many of his works. If Jun-ho survives and tells the story of his brother in season 2, he will be very happy.”
On the assumption of being a participant in the games
Wi Ha Joon claims he would certainly survive “The Flower of Mugunghwa has bloomed” game. He asserted, “I think I’ll do the best because I’m good at running and controlling my body.”
Afterwards, he picked the “draw game” as the game he would be struggling with.
“I think I can do everything well except for the dalgona drawing. I think I will be eliminated because the drawing is not delicate.”
Moreover, Ha Joon was disheartened that there was no chance of him getting the 45.6 billion won prize.
“If I personally get 45.6 billion won, I’d like to donate it and give it to my family who worked hard to support and support me. I like sports, so I want to set up a gym and work out hard. It would be nice to have that place become a hideout and practice the script and acting.”
Finally, Wi Ha Joon devoted Squid Game as a notable work for his family.
“I always wanted to try a Netflix script, but I realized it with ‘Squid Game’. He will be remembered a lot by being able to introduce the actor Ha-Jun Wi to many people around the world.”
Don’t miss out on the hype, watch Squid Game exclusively on Netflix.
