The result of the 2023 Overseas Korean Wave Survey is out and names Lee Min Ho as Korea’s representative actor.

On March 10, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the Korea Cultural Exchange Promotion Agency, announced the results of the Overseas Hallyu Survey which validates the current status and reach of K-culture content in major overseas countries.

To the subjective question, who is your current favorite Korean actor? – out of 25,000 respondents, the results are as follows:

  • 9.1% – Lee Min Ho
  • 2.7% – Gong Yoo
  • 2.4% – Hyun Bin
  • 2.0% – Song Hye Kyo
  • 1.5% – Lee Jong Suk

Notably, the star of The King: Eternal Monarch has consistently held the top spot from 2018 to 2022.

From his breakthrough role in Boys Over Flowers, Lee Min Ho has solidified his top-star status with dramas including The Heirs, The Legend of the Blue Sea, Faith, City Hunter, Pachinko and more.

While K-content is showing worldwide strength, Lee’s works meet global viewers through global OTTs such as Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+, and HBO, and even at this moment, Lee Min-ho’s popularity continues to rise.

It was implemented to identify trends in behavior and investigate the level of reach of Korean Wave content as objective indicators to suggest future development directions.
