Rounding up the lead cast of Dear X are Kim Do Hoon, and Lee Yeol Eum.
Helmed by renowned director Lee Eung-bok, known for hits like Sweet Home, Mr. Sunshine, Goblin and Descendants of the Sun, Dear X promises a captivating blend of romance and suspense.
Director Park So Hyun, known for her striking visual style, also brings her talents to the series, with writing by Choi Ja Won, who previously won the grand prize at the 2018 KBS One-Act Drama Script Contest. The series is based on the popular Naver webtoon of the same name, which boasts a strong global fanbase.
The series delves into the story of a woman who wears a mask to survive and a man who is determined to save her. The plot revolves around the rise and fall of actress Baek Ah-jin (Kim Yoo Jung), who ascends from the depths of despair to the pinnacle of success, and the tragic love of Yoon Jun-seo (Kim Young Dae), who chooses a life of torment to protect her.
Kim Yoo Jung takes on the role of Baek Ah-jin, a top actress in South Korea who hides her cruel nature behind a beautiful facade. Having climbed to the top by overcoming the scars of a dangerous childhood, she now faces the crumbling of everything she’s built. Kim Yoo Jung expressed her excitement for the role, saying, “As I read the original work and script, I found myself increasingly drawn to the characters. I’m eager to start filming and will work hard to deliver a great performance.”
Kim Young Dae plays Yoon Jun-seo, a man who believes in love as a form of salvation. Yoon Jun-seo has stood by Baek Ah-jin’s side his entire life, becoming both her refuge and Achilles’ heel. His fierce, bittersweet love for Baek Ah-jin drives him to extremes. Kim Young-dae shared his commitment to the role, stating, “I am truly happy to be part of Dear X. I will give it my all to deliver strong performances.”
Kim Do Hoon portrays Kim Jae-oh, Baek Ah-jin’s blind supporter. Jae-oh, who survived his father’s cult-driven abuse, finds purpose in life by becoming Baek Ah-jin’s shadow. Kim Do-hoon expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m really looking forward to this project. I’m grateful to the director and production team for trusting me, and I aim to create a captivating drama with strong teamwork.”
Lastly, Lee Yeol Eum plays Lena, a former idol turned top actress who is hopelessly in love. Lena’s bright personality and mental resilience are shaken when Baek Ah-jin and Yoon Jun-seo enter her life. As her love for Yoon Jun-seo grows, she realizes she is reaching for something beyond her grasp. Lee Yeol-eum, excited for the role, said, “I’m thrilled to be part of such an incredible project. I hope to showcase my growth as an actress through Dear X.”
Dear X is set to premiere on TVING in 2025.
