Lee Jin Wook Reveals Why He Chose To Be Part Of tvN’s “Bulgasal: Immortal Souls”

Playing as an immortal and lonely character in Bulgasal: Immortal Souls, Lee Jin Wook shares his thoughts about his role and the series.

Adding romance and mystical charm this December, Bulgasal: Immortal Souls’ premiere date slowly nears. To give more details about the upcoming series, actor Lee Jin Wook emotionally reveals hints to the audience.

He portrays Dan Hwal, a Bulgasal – a man who has been living for 600 years. He then chases another Bulgasal who has been reincarnated as a human 600 years after.

Furthermore, Lee Jin Wook shares why he accepted the role of Dan Hwal. He stated, “When I received and read the synopsis and the script, I felt refreshed by the appearance of the main character who always makes righteous choices in adversity, but sometimes weak and agonizing.”

“I thought it was unusual for a character who has lived for a long time to be treated a lot but still has emotions. Most of them have the beginning and end of their work. But Dan Hwal is a character who doesn’t have that part,” he added.

On His Performance On Set

The actor also revealed his struggles when performing the character. “So it was awkward and new when I acted. But the director and the writer were telling me that only a “perfectly cool person” becomes the main character. So I’m thinking about how to communicate and create the character of Dan Hwal.”

“Even if the situation changes around me, I’ve lived without change for 600 years, so I wanted to show the loneliness and intertwining of Dan Hwal through clothes and hairstyles that used,” on immersing in his role.

Jin Wook described the life of Dan Hwal as a “stopped clock” and a “compass that has lost its direction.” On the other hand, the actor is also amazed at learning culture through the series. He shares, “I’ve never known that Korea has such a variety of mythical creatures. Now, I think many of our works will deal with our country’s treasures. In particular, I think it has a different charm from the existing creations because Korea has its unique culture.”
