“My Liberation Notes” Lead Stars Share Preparations For Their Characters

The new JTBC series has been acquainting viewers about the characters of Lee Min Ki, Kim Ji Won, Lee El and Son Kuk Ku.

My Liberation Notes narrates the unbearably lovely life of three siblings. They attempt to liberate themselves from the harsh reality of living in the present. A lukewarm life that has seemingly reached its limit.

The drama is directed by Kim Seok-yoon, who is known for his works The Light in Your Eyes and Law School, and is written by Park Hae-young who also wrote My Mister and Another Miss Oh.

Lee Min Ki as Yeom Chang Hee

For his latest character, Lee Min Ki portrays Yeom Chang-hee, the middle child among three siblings. He is a man with a plan for a life without a plan. Interesting, right? What’s more attractive is that Chang-hee assumes half-urban and half-rural living.

Expressing fondness for his character, Lee shared intriguing facets of his character and the drama.

“I like not Chang-hee, but all the characters in the play. I really like the various emotions such as the situations the characters go through, the words that express the emotions they feel each time, and the warmth and pain in them. The part about Changhee’s character is already well drawn in the script, so I started acting with the intention of immersing in the role sketch.”

Kim Ji Won as Yeom Mi-jung

Naturally introverted, Mi-jung has lived her whole life feeling like she is alone in the universe. She feels that her life is homework, as all her relationships are heavy. Still, as the youngest child in the family, she does her part quietly.

Wanting to be freed from her monotonous life, she decides to write down her “liberation diary”. Also, she begins to see a man.

Describing her complex character, Kim Ji Won relays insights about her role.

“Mi-jung has a calmness that is not easily shaken. She is a person who follows the voice of her own heart rather than following others. I hope that the changes in her emotions can be seen clearly. I also had a lot of conversations with the director to show the flow of emotions she feels over time.”

Lee El as Yeom Ki-jung

Working as a team leader at a research firm, Ki-jung spent her youth on the street commuting to work. She lives a life without love and the only thing that can put a smile on her face is payday.

Providing a peek at her new character, Lee El shared Ki-jung is the most realistic and honest character among the three siblings.

“In reality, I wanted to stand with my feet on the ground properly. In order to approach people comfortably, I summoned the most natural image inside of me and immerse on it.

Son Suk Ku as Mr. Gu

Mr. Gu is a foreigner who stumbles into the village of Sanpo, where no one comes in, even if his name is not revealed. He is a mysterious man who works in the fields during the day and endures the day while intoxicated at night. One day, he feels that a new season is coming to him, who has been living apart from life not knowing if he is happy or not.

Conveying his thoughts about Mr. Gu, the versatile actor thinks of him as a soft-hearted person. To assimilate Mr. Gu’s persona, he expressed commitment to it.

“I wanted to play the real thing. I didn’t want to give fake hopes that don’t apply to reality to people who are suffering from a sense of shame like Mr.Gu.”
