Netflix Rings in the New Year With the Charming Global Romance “Can This Love Be Translated?”

Netflix is starting the year on a sweet, heart-fluttering note with the announcement of its new Korean romantic comedy Can This Love Be Translated?, set to premiere on January 16.

The series follows the wonderfully unpredictable love story between Joo Ho-jin, a gifted multilingual interpreter, and Cha Mu-hee, a world-renowned star whose glamorous life unexpectedly collides with his.

Kim Seon-ho — adored for his roles in When Life Gives You Tangerines, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, and Start-Up — takes the lead as Ho-jin, infusing the character with his signature mix of warmth and wit. Joining him is Go Youn-jung, the breakout favorite from Sweet Home, Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow, and Resident Playbook. Their sparkling on-screen chemistry is already generating buzz as one of the most exciting romantic pairings to kick off the new year.

The series brings together powerhouse creators: the legendary Hong Sisters — Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran — the minds behind hits like Alchemy of Souls, Hotel Del Luna, and The Master’s Sun, and director Yoo Young-eun (Bloody Heart), celebrated for her refined visuals and emotionally resonant direction. With filming spanning picturesque locations in Japan, Canada, Italy, and beyond, viewers can expect a visually rich backdrop to this cross-cultural love story.

A newly revealed poster offers a glimpse into the tone of the drama: Ho-jin and Mu-hee stand back-to-back, connected by shared earphones, while the softly blurred word “love,” scrawled in different languages, hints at the series’ theme — a romance shaped by miscommunication, translation, and the deeper understanding that grows in between.

Can This Love Be Translated? premieres January 16, exclusively on Netflix.
