Love Untangled

Netflix has announced a new youth romance film titled Love Untangled.

Set in the nostalgic year of 1998, the film follows Park Se-ri, a high school student who has a lifelong frustration with her unruly curly hair. Determined to confess her feelings to the most popular student in school, she believes the key to success is straightening her hair and enlists the help of the transfer student Han Yun-seok.

The film features an ensemble cast of rising stars. Gong Myung (Citizen of a Kind, Killing Romance, Hansan: Rising Dragon) takes on the role of Han Yun-seok, a transfer student who becomes involved in Se-ri’s mission to confess her feelings. His calm and seemingly indifferent demeanor hides deeper emotions, making him a captivating character that will likely resonate with viewers. Shin Eun Soo (Twinkling Watermelon, Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned) stars as Park Se-ri, a high school girl who struggles with her unruly curly hair and sees straightening it as the key to winning over the most popular boy in school. Shin’s portrayal of Se-ri, with her endearing quirks and relatable insecurities, is expected to capture audiences’ hearts.

The supporting cast includes Cha Woo Min (Weak Hero Class 1, Night Has Come), who plays Kim Hyeon, the popular student and the object of Se-ri’s affection. Youn Sang-hyun (Doctor Slump, Under the Queen’s Umbrella) plays Baek Seong-rae, Se-ri’s classmate and friend, who helps her navigate her feelings. Kang Mina (Welcome to Samdal-ri, Café Minamdang) portrays Ko In-jeong, Se-ri’s rival and friend, who offers her hair-straightening advice. Together, this dynamic cast brings fresh energy and youthful nostalgia to the screen.

Directed by Namkoong Sun, known for her award-winning short film Worst Friends and the critically acclaimed feature Time to Be Strong, Love Untangled promises to blend warmth and depth in its portrayal of teenage love and friendship. Namkoong’s directing style is celebrated for its sensitivity and emotional nuance, which will likely shine in this exploration of adolescent vulnerability and the unpredictability of growing up.

Produced by bombaramfilm, the same studio behind Kim Ji-young: Born 1982, the film is expected to be a touching and visually engaging depiction of the trials and triumphs of teenage life. With its nostalgic 1990s setting, a cast of promising young actors, and a thoughtful exploration of first love, Love Untangled is shaping up to be a heartwarming addition to Netflix’s growing library of youth-centered dramas.
