Featuring its lead stars, Payback sets a mysterious atmosphere on its recently released character posters.
Slated to premiere next year on January 6, SBS’ new Friday-Saturday drama, Payback, is a thriller-mystery business drama directed by Lee Won Tae and written by Kim Won Seok. It stars Lee Sun Kyun (Diary Of A Prosecutor, My Mister), Moon Chae Won (Flower Of Evil), Kang Yoo Seok (Growing Season), Park Hoon (Remarriage and Desires) and Kim Hong Pa (The Fiery Priest).
The drama depicts a thrilling tale of vengeance, following those who will risk everything to take down a cartel of wealthy criminals who have conspired with the government.
The Characters
Lee Sun Kyun plays unsociable money dealer Eun-yong, who plots a high-stakes revenge to restore the dignity of a person he’s grateful for but got sacrificed in an unjust trade. In his character poster, he exudes charm and self-confidence.
The note written next to him reading, “I’m going to buy all of South Korea’s prosecutors. Not with the law but with money.” tickles our interest in his story that is full of bravado.
Additionally, Moon Chae Won will play Army Major Park Joon-kyung, a top-ranking judicial officer and a former prosecutor. Her pristine suit and firm gaze provide a glimpse at her qualities as a morally honest and fair prosecutor.
However, the statement beside her, “If the prosecutor fails to investigate and prosecute criminals, then someone else should.” suggests that she is determined to transform herself into a monster to fight against other monsters.
Moreover, Kang Yoo Seok portrays Jang Tae-choon, a young, ambitious prosecutor with a ravenous appetite for success. The poster shows the actor dressed in a black suit with determination in his eyes and a line saying, “I wanted to reach the top. To be a prosecutor no one in the world can ignore.”
It makes us anticipate the outstanding performance of Jang Tae Choon standing up to evil.
Meanwhile, Park Hoon transforms into the elite prosecutor Hwang Gi-seok. He will not hesitate to conspire with his enemies if it means joining the Blue House and achieving his ultimate ambition of reaching the highest level of authority.
Hwang Gi-seok’s poster portrays him as cold-blooded and ambitious, as seen by the ominous sentence, “But you know, if I were you, I wouldn’t fight me,” which exemplifies his dark ambition. This draws attention to what unfortunate fate his opponents will face.
Lastly, Kim Hong Pa portrays chairman Myung In-joo as a key player in the corporate bond market. Myung In-joo’s character poster shows his eyes concealed by thick sunglasses. It heightens interest in discovering what other secrets his character is hiding.
The enigmatic expression, “Those who are holding tight to money are not the tough people. The tough ones are those who already have a firm grasp on money.” further arouses viewers’ curiosity as to what strategy the godfather of the cartel of greed employs.
The production team also showed their support by saying:
“Because the actors have such amazing chemistry, they were full of encouragement, support, and laughter for one another during the poster shoot. We hope that you welcome the first broadcast of Payback, which is as compelling as the character posters that capture the distinct personalities and storylines of the five characters.”
The premiere of Payback will air on January 6, 2023, at 10:00 p.m.
