“Today’s Webtoon” Illustrates True Stories Inside Korean Webcomics Industry

Offering a fresh and promising storyline, Today’s Webtoon showcases and explores behind the scenes in the webtoon office world.

The new SBS drama, Today’s Webtoon, aspiringly takes the series as an opportunity to share how editors and writers work together to upload comics on a daily basis.

In reality, the editors are the ones to draw out ideas from ongoing trends, constantly communicating with the webtoon writers.

They serve as support who also maximize the strengths and stretch the potentials of the writers to perform well.

Introducing the editors in the series are Editor-in-chief Jang Man-cheol (Park Ho San) and deputy editor Seok Ji-hyung (Choi Daniel). Also, present on the team are lead editorialist Kwon Young-bae (Yang Hyun Min), editorial ace Ki Yu-mi (Kang Rae Yeon), and Choi Doo-hee (Ahn Tae Hwan). Despite them having different views on webcomics, they all struggle to meet their deadlines every day.

On the other hand, On Ma-eum (Kim Sejeong) and Goo Jun-yeong  (Nam Yoon Su) come in as new recruits. The drama also questions whether the two will be able to become true and reliable editors. Their growth through solving countless problems and learning the process of supporting the writers are other points to watch out for in the upcoming series.

Other characters in the series are Manga giant Baek Eo-jin (Kim Kap Soo) and Neon’s representative writer Na Gang-nam (Im Cheol Soo). Together with them are the rookie genius Shin Dae-ryuk (Kim Do Hoon) and star writer Bbomm (Ha Yul Ri).

Next are celebrity writer Oh Yoon (Son Dong Woon) and webtoon camp participant Lee Woo-jin (Jang Sung Yoon). Lastly, joining them is the newcomer Guo-ah (Jeon Hye Yeon). They are all aspiring writers working hard to be able to publish their work someday.

Entering and learning about the world of the Korean webtoon industry, the production team plans to deliver true stories of people working behind editing and publishing webcomics.

“Today’s Webtoon deals with the webtoon works that we liked, the story behind them, the stories of the people who worked hard to make them. With this, for the first time in a Korean drama, we plan to deliver the real webtoon industry vividly. We are working hard so that we can get a glimpse of the industry’s stories that we have been curious about through Today’s Webtoon.”
