“The Red Sleeve” Imparts Glimpses of Characters’ Goals In Released Posters

The Red Sleeve

Brandishing the lead characters of The Red Sleeve, MBC unfurls posters featuring Lee Jun Ho, Lee Se Young and Kang Hoon.

The series narrates a bittersweet historical court romance drama about a court lady who wants to protect the life she has chosen and a king who prioritizes the kingdom over her love. The title alludes to the red sleeves of the court ladies’ garments, which means the king’s woman.

It is an authentic romance historical drama that MBC will air for the first time in two years following the success of Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung in 2019. It is based on Kang Mi Gang’s bestselling novel of the same name.

Unveiling the preliminary character sketches hypes anticipation for the viewers. In the drama, Lee Jun Ho plays the role of Lee San, a strict and arrogant perfectionist prince who will later become King Jeongjo. Lee Se Young portrays Sung Deok-im, a court lady who wants to independently choose her life, not one of the king’s countless women. Rounding up the lead cast is Kang Hoon who suits up as Hong Deok-ro, the most handsome man in Joseon who hides his cool inner side in his soft and warm appearance.

Stealing attention with his intense aura as the next monarch, Lee San’s poster shows a young king carrying the weight of responsibility to lead a kingdom. The text on his poster conveys his goal to endure well so he can achieve the thing he wants to have.

Radiantly beautiful, Sung Deok-im dazzles with his graceful and elegant look as her smile is made even more stunning by the rays of sunshine. “Even if it’s trivial, I want to live by making choices.” This text on her poster reveals her simple wish and undeniable charm. It further draws attention to how turbulent her life would become when she meets Lee San. Something opposite to the simple life she wants to pursue.

Lastly, Hong Deok-ro fronts the definition of “the most handsome man in Joseon”. However, his ambitious eyes contrast his beautiful appearance. His ambitious inner self heightens curiosity to his kingmaker’s actions, who will spare no effort to raise Lee San.

MBC’s The Red Sleeve is spearheaded by director Jung Ji In, whose previous works include Radiant Office and Should We Kiss First, and writer Jeong Hae Ri, who co-wrote Ruler: Master of the Mask. It will be broadcast for the first time on November 5.
