Disney+ is set to debut Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born on October 12, a highly anticipated Korean series that brings to life the inspiring story of a young girl’s quest to dominate the female classical opera scene in post-war Korea. The series, rooted in the popular webtoon of the same name, features Kim Taeri (known for Revenant and Twenty Five Twenty One) in the titular role of Jeongnyeon, a determined trainee at the Maeran Gukgeuk-dan (Theater Company). Jeongnyeon dreams of rising to the pinnacle of Korean female classical opera, despite the immense challenges and fierce competition she faces, particularly from her biggest rival, Youngseo, played by Shin Yeeun (from The Glory and Revenge of Others).
Set against the backdrop of Korea emerging from the devastation of war, the series explores themes of ambition, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of dreams. The series is produced by Studio Dragon, the renowned production powerhouse under CJ ENM, which has a reputation for delivering compelling and high-quality Korean dramas.
