New episodes will air weekly every Saturday and Sunday at 11 pm (GMT+8) right after Korea’s airing.
The Tale of Lady Ok follows the intertwined lives of four enigmatic characters: Lim Ji Yeon, Choo Young Woo, Kim Jae Won, and Yeonwoo.
The drama is set in the vibrant and rigidly traditional Joseon era, where Ok Tae-young (played by Lim Ji-yeon) lives a double life as a respected legal expert. Athletic, highly principled, and skilled in her craft, Tae-young is admired by many. Yet behind her poised facade lies an extraordinary secret—her name, identity, and even her marriage are all fabrications. She has carefully constructed a life built entirely on lies to protect herself, but the weight of these secrets threatens to unravel her carefully curated existence.
Cheon Seung-hwi (Choo Young-woo), a charismatic storyteller who roams the countryside reciting novels to eager audiences, enters Tae-young’s life and changes everything. Seung-hwi is immediately captivated by her strength and beauty, falling deeply in love at first sight. As he discovers the truth about her past, he resolves to stand by her side and protect her, even at the risk of his own life.
The drama delves deep into themes of resilience, sacrifice, and love that defy societal constraints. Ok Tae-young’s journey is one of courage and determination as she challenges the rigid norms of her time, striving to forge her own destiny despite overwhelming odds. Seung-hwi’s devotion to Tae-young adds depth to their romance, showcasing a love story that transcends tradition and societal expectations.
Beyond its compelling romance, The Tale of Lady Ok shines a spotlight on the struggles of individuals who fight to rewrite their destinies in a world that seeks to confine them. The characters’ journeys resonate with universal themes of empowerment, ambition, and the pursuit of authenticity.
Lim Ji Yeon, widely praised for her portrayal of the morally complex Park Yeon-jin in The Glory, is poised to deliver another unforgettable performance. Her role as Ok Tae-young promises a multifaceted character who embodies strength, vulnerability, and defiance against adversity.
The series is directed by the renowned Jin Hyuk, known for visually stunning dramas such as The Legend of the Blue Sea and Master’s Sun. Jin Hyuk’s expertise in bringing elaborate and emotionally charged stories to life pairs seamlessly with the intricate writing of Park Ji-sook, acclaimed for her work on *Uncle*. Together, they craft a bold and visually striking narrative that infuses the historical drama genre with fresh energy and depth.
The Tale of Lady Ok is not just a story of secrets and ambition—it is a tale of love, courage, and defiance in the face of societal constraints. With its richly layered characters, breathtaking visuals, and timeless themes, this period drama offers a refreshing perspective on the Joseon era, promising to captivate audiences with its daring storytelling and emotional resonance.
