Big Bet Season 2 Episode 5 Highlights
“This is my first time going back to Korea in 15 years!”
Accompanied to the airport, Moo-sik gets handed to the Korean police. Despite being sent back to Korea, Moo-sik offers to pay for first-class tickets back to Korea.
With Jong-hyun handling his case, Moo-sik is welcomed back to Korea with great treatment. His cellmates respect him a lot after hearing he is a big figure in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, in the Philippines, Mark informs Seung-hun about the intended arrest of another man for Mr. Min’s murder. Far from the composite sketch he holds, Seung-hun feels bewildered by the haste in wrapping up the case despite the mismatch in the real perpetrator.
“Coming back after a year, I had a mixture of feelings.”
Speaking with the prosecutor in charge of his case, Moo-sik admits his faults back in 2001 as an agent creditor for Mr. Min. On the side, Moo-sik discovers through Jong-hyun about Chil-gu’s money transfers to Young-hee.
Presenting those to the prosecutor as well as the Hong Kong bank account from the sugar field murder case, Moo-sik receives favorable treatment from the prosecutor. With those, the prosecutor even writes a petition for Moo-sik, which later helps him in getting a not guilty judgment.
John calls Moo-sik to inform him about the news about him in the Philippines. Cabinet members from different government departments in the Philippines hold a meeting with Daniel, who pushes to find a way for Moo-sik to come back to the Philippines after being banned for a year.
“A lion has entered the tiger’s den.”
To pay the press in the Philippines, Moo-sik instructs Jung-pal to find his money from his safe in his basement. Seeing the bars of gold and bundles of cash in the basement, Jung-pal feels thrilled and curious about the locked portion in the basement.
Being able to come back to the Philippines, Moo-sik makes sure to pay back those who messed with him. Yoon-gi, the consul, gets sent back to Korea after his anomalies with Sunshine Bar get exposed. Chil-gu also rushes to go back to Korea after receiving a text from Moo-sik.
After handling all of those, Moo-sik goes to Bolton in Caliz. Meeting Jung-pal again after a year, he notices a difference in Jung-pal. Sang-gu creates excuses for Jung-pal and the slow day in the casino. With his friend, Jung-pal meets with Yang Sang-soo who demands Moo-sik from Sung-il.
Big Bet Season 2 Episode 5 Musings
Showcased in this episode is the truth about the speed of a case having the right set of connections and the amount of power. Money can do a lot of things, but it also has a limit to bringing favorable outcomes to the person who holds it.
While Moo-sik wraps his case up in Korea and comes back to the Philippines right away, a possible new traitor may come his way. Though he may be able to retaliate back to Yoon-gi, Chil-gu, Young-hee, and Terrence; he still has another obstacle to face.
Jung-pal, who discovers Moo-sik’s riches in the basement, appears to have knelt down in the face of money. Loyalty becomes meaningless to him, seeing how he switches to Sang-soo.
However, the phone call at the end of the episode suggests he and his friend could fall into trouble. Dealing with powerful people could be a double-edged sword, and not all people could handle it.
A change in the administration comes again, and it surely would not be easy for Moo-sik as it was in the past years. Possibly, it could be a chance for Seung-hun to pursue the truth about Moo-sik who is about to encounter changes again in the next episodes.
