Buried Hearts Episodes 5 to 8 Highlights
Dong-ju was rescued by a man who nursed him back to life. He forgot everything but an unfamiliar name – Seong-hyeon.
Determined to uncover the truth about himself, he visits a high-end tailor shop, where he meets Eun-nam. Sensing his confusion, she lends him her phone and realizes he is suffering from amnesia.
Meanwhile, Jang-seon and his men capture Dong-ju, using brutal torture to force his memories to return. Director Huh, posing as a savior, intervenes and even tries hypnotic therapy, but nothing seems to work.
However, fragments of Dong-ju’s past slowly begin to surface, including a shocking image of Director Huh aiming a gun at him. Growing increasingly wary of both Director Huh and Jang-seon, Dong-ju senses danger lurking around him.
His worst fears are confirmed when Jang-seon takes extreme measures to shatter his mind—forcing him to witness his beloved sister’s tragic death as she is hit by a truck right before his eyes.
“I’m tired of chasing my memories. And I’m left alone in this world. I’m done. It’s exhausting. So, I’ll disappear with the 2 trillion won stuck in my head.”
It doesn’t take long for Dong-ju to uncover the masterminds behind his sister’s tragic death. Fueled by vengeance, he boldly taunts Jang-seon, daring him to finish what he started. Meanwhile, Jang-seon faces mounting pressure from the elusive “Elder,” a powerful figure determined to seize control of the National Patriotic Fund, which Dong-ju had secretly transferred to his Swiss account.
As the villains grow desperate, they devise a ruthless test to confirm whether Dong-ju’s memory loss is genuine. Seeing through their ploy, Dong-ju deliberately eats a cinnamon cookie, triggering his severe allergy and rendering himself unconscious once again.
With Chairman Cha’s health rapidly deteriorating, he confides in President Huh, expressing his unease about Jang-seon’s influence. As a result, he decides against appointing Huh as Vice-Chairman. Sensing an opportunity, President Huh reaches out to the newly appointed Vice-Chairman, subtly warning him about the Chairman’s declining condition to ensure his own interests remain protected.
Meanwhile, Eun-nam uncovers damning truths—President Huh was the one who shot Dong-ju, and Jang-seon’s trusted aide played a role in his sister’s death. Using this information as leverage, she secures a divorce without having to pay a financial penalty.
Realizing they can no longer extract the hidden 2 trillion won from Dong-ju’s buried memories, Jang-seon and President Huh shift their focus to taking over Daesan Group. At the same time, they move to permanently eliminate Dong-ju. However, just as Jang-seon’s enforcer attempts to inject a lethal drug into his IV, Dong-ju regains consciousness. Swiftly subduing his attacker, he turns his gaze toward the hospital room entrance—where President Huh stands watching.
Buried Hearts Episodes 5 to 8 Musings
Amnesia has long been a staple in Korean dramas, yet Buried Hearts manages to use it in a fresh and compelling way. The relentless clash between the protagonist and his enemies amplifies the tension, making Dong-ju’s memory loss feel less like a cliché and more like a crucial catalyst driving the story forward.
With each new trial, Dong-ju’s suffering seems endless, and we’ve lost count of how many times we’ve felt sorry for him. His sharp mind is both his greatest weapon and his biggest curse, yet against such formidable villains, his underdog status feels almost insurmountable. Still, it’s this very intensity that keeps viewers glued to his journey, eagerly anticipating his ultimate revenge.
Hopefully, love won’t become a distraction. At the very least, Dong-ju has realized that being with Eun-nam has brought him more pain than joy. His pursuit of vengeance is what makes the story so gripping, and we can’t wait to see how he flips the game in his favor.
The second half of the series promises even more shocking revelations, including the long-hidden truth about Dong-ju’s birth. As his memories begin resurfacing—childhood and all—Jang-seon’s looming takeover of Chairman Cha’s position adds another layer of intrigue.
With its high-stakes drama and morally complex characters, Buried Hearts delivers an electrifying narrative powered by a cast that fully embodies their roles. Each character, driven by ruthless self-interest, adds depth to the show’s thrilling unpredictability, making it an unforgettable ride.
Look forward to Dong-ju’s payback in the next episodes of Buried Hearts!
