Decoy Part 1 Episodes 9 and 10 Highlights
Coming back to Korea as Chinese national Xin Chang, No Sang-cheon eats at a local restaurant while reckoning the glorious days of Bigs Investment.
In that business model, people are lured with 30% of revenue from their investment and make the new members cover the revenue for the earlier investors. The catch for it to work is for the recruitment of new members not to stop.
“I now understand that fraud can sometimes be crueler than murder.”
Meanwhile, with Deputy Head Jang’s death, Do-han finds a notebook among his things.
He meets Na-yeon whom he previously chided over her mental health. Pressed by her demands, he asserts how their group’s meddling caused the initial investigation to fail.
Apologizing for his outburst, he also says sorry for taking fraud cases lightly. Do-han now understands that the murder cases and the goal of Sang-cheon’s victims’ group truly align. Its endgame is to lure the fraudster who faked his death.
Following his senior’s mission to trace his footsteps, Do-han and his team begin the investigation. Including Na-yeon in their quest, they set up a decoy using the same goals as the murder perpetrators.
But the scammer No Sang-cheon easily caught on Do-han’s lure and he explains it to Assemblyman Kim who then shared it with Chief Prosecutor Park.
Sang-cheon also makes a bold move by visiting Commissioner Kim’s office.
Assemblyman Kim and Chief Prosecutor Park rush to the building as Deputy Jang’s friend and retired police officer Detective Jo completes the meeting.
Do-han who sees two high-ranking officials approaching their office goes to the commissioner’s room.
Face to face with No Sang-cheon the high-ranking officials feign ignorance to Do-han’s claim that Commissioner Kim’s guest is the declared dead fraudster. Seeing the Chinese passport of No Sang-cheon, Do-han is left with no choice but to leave the room after it was verified to be true.
Together with his team, Do-han follows No Sang-cheon who was driven by Commissioner Kim’s driver. But at some point, masked men kidnapped Sang-cheon.
Successfully tracking him, he begs Do-han not to bring him to the police station. Thus, he was brought to a safe house.
Briefing Do-han about the gold bars that the people behind the murders are after, Sang-cheon claimed the gold bars are nonexistent.
When Do-han asked him the reason for his return, Sang-cheon responds that he’s back for revenge.
Decoy Part 1 Episodes 9 and 10 Musings
Adding another problem to its pile of concerns, Sang-cheon’s gold bars which the villain claimed to be imaginary can’t be validated to be true yet knowing how lying is as natural as breathing for him.
At least, we now get the definite reason why he was summoned back to Korea, even using his connections with high-ranking government officials.
Someone from the government officials, the previous people he worked with, or even the victims’ group might be aiding the group that committed the murders and those who tried to abduct him.
We’ve got to credit No Sang-cheon for his effortless dark bravado in wanting revenge after all he has done. Hopefully, Do-han’s lawyer skills can help in cracking the pathological liar that he is.
If revenge is what Sang-cheon is after, it’s hard to process how he can still do it when he does not have money. His rumored gold is keeping him alive and he’s using it to his advantage.
Wrapping up Decoy would require serving justice to Sang-cheon’s protectors. How Do-han can execute a foolproof plan is something to look forward to.
