Heartbeat Episodes 3 and 4 Highlights

We are greeted by Hae-sun walking into a dark cave, following some fireflies. She finds a vampire who tries to attack her, but Woo-hyeol appears and scares the vampire away. He lends a hand to Hae-sun, then the scene transitions into him helping out In-hae.

As In-hae gets up, the scammer starts running away again. Woo-hyeol falls over and notices the wallet she dropped. She eventually catches the scammer and brings him to the police station, where he strongly claims Woo-hyeol is a vampire. He asks In-hae to confirm but instead, she just yells at him to give her money back.

Meanwhile, Woo-hyeol enters a department store and tries out some outfits and appliances, paying with In-hae’s credit card. When she found out her card was maxed out, she scolds him and tells him to sell the purple coat he has on.

“I don’t have reason to live. I don’t have money. I live in a house with a vampire who maxed out my credit card.”

She tells him to find a man wearing a hat and a black puffer jacket and to make sure he pays the full price. He meets the buyer who turns out to be Sang-hae and they meet up with Dong-seob who gives Woo-hyeol some blood to drink.

In-hae is brought back to the mansion by Do-sik after helping her up her stuff. Woo-hyeol appears, asking what brought him to their house. He introduces himself to Do-sik, before In-hae interrupts the conversation and goes inside the house with Woo-hyeol.

Inside, she notices the money from selling the purple coat is 50,000 won short and makes Woo-hyeol sign an IOU stating that he must pay her back in 6 months, or else she will sell the mansion.

The next day, he gets his ID made by Sang-hae and gets a couple of jobs but failed miserably.

Heartbeat

“Just like you only have one heart, you can only truly love one person. Drink my blood and remember me.”

He returns to the house with no money or energy. Still, In-hae manages to get him to clean the house and talk about it. Woo-hyeol tells In-hae that he’s waiting for someone, saying that this place was their hide-out.

Soon, their peace is broken when a chandelier almost fell on In-hae. Woo-hyeol who was alarmed by In-hae’s bitemark rushes towards her and flies in the air to avoid the broken shards.

He looks at her and notices the blood on her lips, before kissing her. Tasting Hae-sun’s blood shocked him as he remembered her words about finding him again. Furious about Woo-hyeol’s vampire tendency, In-hae slaps Woo-hyeol and calls him a pervert for kissing her because of the blood on her lip.

As she surmises how her first kiss is with a vampire, he is also baffled at why her blood is the same as his first love. He ends up talking to Sang-hae and Dong-seop about it. As they discuss it, Rose, a fellow vampire arrives and delivers some Rh- blood to them.

Returning to the mansion, Woo-hyeol follows Sang-hae’s advice to reason he lost control. He tells In-hae how he won’t make a move on her since his heart does not beat. She accepts his reason that he only desires blood because she also feels the same hunger for raising money.

But calling him a mosquito did not sit well with the prideful vampire who does not want to be compared to pests. Still, In-hae puts him back to his reality and reminds him to live like a human.

“She’s the only one who accepts me for who I am. After sacrificing her life for me, she even allowed me to drink her blood.”

Meanwhile, Do-sik opens a safe with a book about vampires. He remembers his father’s words as he handed him a book that would end their family’s curse. The curse seems to kill members of his family using heart attacks before they turned 40. On the car ride, he’s informed that Ms. Na is arriving and decides that he’ll come pick her up.

The next day, Woo-hyeol goes out to deliver food to the school near them, leading him to take out the trash.

As Woo-hyeol drops off the trash bag, a cleaning lady teaches him how to recycle and finds out from her that In-hae is the school nurse. He goes to watch outside the clinic, only for a guard to take him out of the school. He asks him for a job but the cleaning lady recognizes and recruits him.

Grabbing the attention of female students, Woo-hyeol bumps into the same teen that crashed his dairy cart, causing them to argue.

Surprised to see Woo-hyeol at school, In-hae overlooks his hard work in getting a job that she asked him to do.

Later, he meets Mr. Ko in front of the house and tells him about In-hae’s blood. In a flashback, it was revealed how Hae-sun sacrificed herself when the townspeople learned of Woo-hyeol’s identity.

“Do not covet her blood again. Her blood is poison to you. You must get her to fall in love with you.”

Mr. Ko tells him that her blood is poison to him because it’s cold and that it can only warm up if she feels love. He also added that her warm blood will make Woo-hyeol human so he has to make her fall in love.

After meeting Do-sik for dinner, as soon as she enters the mansion, In-hae tells Woo-hyeol to quit his job at the school.

The next day, In-hae spots Woo-hyeol convincing a cleaning lady to visit the clinic to rest and offers to do her workload. The lady tells this to In-hae upon visiting her.

Woo-hyeol arranges the trash as the rude teen from before throws his trash into the wrong bag, causing him to investigate the place he and his friends came from. He finds bottles but misses a cigarette that causes a fire.

He gets scolded and the cleaning lady tries to help only to get yelled at. In-hae drags the student responsible by the ear and shows the principal the proof.

Meanwhile, the owners of the butcher and tailor shop talk about the house and want to drive Woo-hyeol out of it. The neighborhood was supposed to be redeveloped, but the previous owner didn’t want to sell the mansion.

Later at home, Woo-hyeol gets reminded of Hae-sun when In-hae defended him earlier. He asks her if she is Hae-sun.

As planned, Do-sik fetches Ms. Na at the airport. Curiously, Ms. Na has the same face as Hae-sun.

Of course, In-hae’s connection to this scenario draws more engagement. That is especially because of her curious power that opened his coffin and the bite that seems to have forged a link with him.

A few secrets are revealed in this week’s episodes. For example, Do-sik has a book about vampires, In-hae being the key to making Woo-hyeol human, and of course, Ms. Na’s appearance who looks exactly like Hae-sun.

It’s intriguing to think about Woo-hyeol’s reaction upon meeting Ms. Na, and the role she will take on moving forward.

It’s also interesting that In-hae’s blood reminded Woo-hyeol of Hae-sun and how her blood can turn him into a human if she falls in love per Mr. Ko’s analysis.

Accordingly, the revelations add more theories to the growing intrigue and mysteries of the narrative has made the series even more engrossing.
