Vague romantic lines are drawn in Heartbeat now that all lead characters are introduced.
Going mellow but still fun, the conflicts raised in the series are more character-centered. Hence, the tendency for the initial excitement to allay. But moving forward to each character’s motivation, their goals will meet along the way.

Heartbeat Episodes 5 and 6 Highlights
In-hae sprays Woo-hyeol with some pepper spray after he keeps calling her Hae-sun. After he recovers, he tells her about his story with Hae-sun. However, she calls him creepy for obsessing over a woman for centuries, discouraging him from being a human. Dong-seob merely tells Woo-hyeol to focus on making In-hae love someone.
Meanwhile, Hae-won talks to Do-sik about a mansion that made her return to Korea. He notices that the address was familiar, as it is In-hae and Woo-hyeol’s mansion.
“You’re doing a great job. Although you are alone, you remained strong. I’m proud of you.”
The next day, students ask In-hae if she’s dating Woo-hyeol. They also give gifts to him, but he gives them to In-hae instead of his plan. She tells him about the rumor and they are both offended.
Later, Sang-hae and Woo-hyeol drop off anonymous gifts at the mansion for In-hae. She decides to report it to the police thinking she has a stalker, which Woo-hyeol manages to stop. With no other choice, Dong-seob suggests going to the theatres.
Woo-hyeol convinces In-hae, and with the help of Rose, gets dressed up for the occasion. However, In-hae falls asleep during the movie, embarrassing Woo-hyeol.
The same night, Mr. Ko tells Woo-hyeol that it wouldn’t be easy to turn poisonous blood into warm blood, and he needs to be genuine in his actions.
Meanwhile, In-hae is fired for defending Woo-hyeol. He talks to her about it, but she shrugs it off. After working, she decides to visit Do-sik’s bar and orders the same things he did. Do-sik sees her and decides to help out a little.
In-hae gets a free pass with her order, making her day. She returns home with Do-sik watching over her as Woo-hyeol is worried at home. She stumbles while walking through the gate and Do-sik helps her, telling her not to drink alone next time.
A drunk In-hae enters the mansion and tells Woo-hyeol her heart only beats twice every two years in distress due to her contract renewals. She says she never had the time to date as she was always busy. He comforts and tells her that she is doing well.
The next morning, In-hae is sick. Woo-hyeol decides to make some medicine only for Do-sik to give him the finished version of the medicine. In-hae recovers and is back to her usual self.
Operation Shaded Oasis Guest House
In-hae meets up with Do-sik who asks her about the mansion. She tells him it’s better if she stays there for now. Later at school, she packs up her things and the bullied student expresses her gratitude for paying attention to her.
Upon arriving home, In-hae goes down to the basement and sees Hae-sun’s portrait. Woo-hyeol arrives and asks her what she’s doing here. She asks him if he would love her if she really was Hae-sun. Woo-hyeol merely replies he wouldn’t, because she isn’t Hae-sun.
Woo-hyeol explains that In-hae’s blood is full of poison, which led to her being offended. As she storms away, she realizes that Woo-hyeol is home early. He says that he quit his job after dumping water on the principal. In-hae tells him he should’ve dumped toilet water instead.
Now that they are both jobless, they worry about money. Woo-hyeol comments about how he misses Shaded Oasis and how it would be considered a hot spot today. After, In-hae applies to different schools only to get rejected.
In-hae receives a call from Do-sik and meets up with him. He offers her to be a business partner and open up a guest house in the mansion. In-hae proposes the idea to Woo-hyeol. He refuses at first, but he is convinced after she says Hae-sun might come and the mansion could be seized if they don’t pay soon.
In-hae researches more about guest houses, and as she contemplates asking Do-sik for help, he calls her. He asks about her decision, to which she agrees with the offer. He is overjoyed and begins preparing for the project.
A Familiar Yet Unfamiliar Investor
In-hae tells him she’ll ask Woo-hyeol first if he’s fine with Do-sik coming over. Woo-hyeol spots the two of them outside the mansion and is even more convinced they like each other. He tells In-hae to go ahead with the guest house, only for her to say it already started.
In-hae tells Do-sik to visit anytime, making him cancel all his plans on Friday. He is then photographed by Sang-hae on Woo-hyeol’s orders. However, Man-hwi spots him and Sang-hae eventually tells him that Woo-hyeol woke up.
Meanwhile, Do-sik tells Hae-won that the mansion she wants to buy is owned by a friend and that it will be turned into a guest house.
At home, In-hae is measuring a room when she drops the tape. Woo-hyeol decides to help her and they measure the rooms together. Soon, Do-sik invites In-hae for dinner, saying he wants to introduce her to someone.
She arrives and meets Hae-won, who wants to invest in the guest house. On the way home, she wonders where she saw Hae-won before and tells Woo-hyeol about her.
Reporting to Woo-hyeol that Do-sik is just a workaholic and that he met Man-hwi, Sang-hae also tells him that he and Dong-seob will find the gold bars and they agree to split it in half when it’s found.
“She’s the woman I wish to protect. How’s that for an answer?”
The next day, Do-sik arrives at the mansion. He sees Woo-hyeol and In-hae and feels a little jealous at the sight. After the tour, he tries to see the basement only for In-hae to stop him.
The two men talk about In-hae while she is making some drinks for them. Do-sik tells Woo-hyeol that she is someone he wants to protect. Woo-hyeol relays this conversation to his friends and they question why he looks a little angry that the two might fall in love with each other.
At night, Woo-hyeol and In-hae are told to patrol the neighborhood by the butcher and tailor shop owners in a plan to drive them out. During the patrol, they talk about vampires and the mansion, with In-hae apologizing for making some changes to it.
Woo-hyeol removes a speck of dust from her hair and they return back home. In front of the mansion, they see Hae-won. Time stood still for Woo-hyeol, and when he found his bearing, he moves to where Hae-won is and embrace her tightly.
Heartbeat Episodes 5 and 6 Musings
This week’s episodes are more on the soft and heartwarming side. Woo-hyeol and In-hae’s relationship is starting to develop even more.
They might be developing feelings too, seeing how Woo-hyeol seemed to be a bit jealous of Do-sik. And then, Woo-hyeol met Hae-won. How will In-hae react to them?
Things may get complicated now due to the relationships of each character and it’s exciting to think how it will all turn out.
Let’s also hope that along with the mission to make In-hae fall in love, the adorable vampire brotherhood retrieves the missing stack of gold somehow.
Going to the middle part of the series, questions about Mr. Ko’s presence as a go-to “wise man” in the story need to be elaborated as well as Do-sik’s family curse.
Hae-won’s strange fascination with the mansion is also an intriguing point since in the past life of Hae-sun, the latter actually picked that place as a haven for her and Woo-hyeol.
Can Shaded Oasis Guest House push through without a hitch? Will Woo-hyeol pursue Hae-won? Will romance also develop between In-hae and Do-sik?
Support Woo-hyeol’s dream to become a human who can fall in love in Heartbeat on KBS2 TV every Monday and Tuesday!
