My Lovely Liar Episodes 7 and 8 Highlights
Previously, Sol-hee confessed her strange ability to Do-ha when he inadvertently eavesdropped her conversation with her mother.
“I can only prove it to you if you lie. But you never lied. That’s why I liked you.
Pouring out her emotions, she also confesses liking him for always saying the truth.
The next day, Sol-hee gets surprised when Do-ha shows up all willing to fix the mess in the cafe. They also went for a meal but they stumble on Kang-min who was eating with his junior.
Interestingly, Do-ha and Kang-min declare faint love war as the latter is keen to hint pursuing the girl he likes since she’s not married yet.
When Sol-hee gets alone with Kang-min, he confirms that she’s not dating Do-ha since he does not know little details about her and he did not wipe the water that spilled on her legs. She admits to her pretense.
The bakery beside Sol-hee’s tarot cafe faces a backlash when someone asserts finding a bug inside a croissant. When another person tries to aggravate his situation, Do-ha steps up and buys all the bread in his bakery like a true blue bromantic gentleman.
“I was a murder suspect. But I did not do it.”
Still obsessing on Do-ha, Sha-on goes to the neighborhood for a coincidental encounter. But people recognize her. Enter fan-in-shining-armor Chi-hoon who brings her to a safe place aka Luni Cafe.
Taking advantage of her chance, Sha-on conversed with Sol-hee to move to a different house but she refused. She then learns from Sha-on that Do-ha has past wounds of killing someone which rings a bell to the only lie she heard from Do-ha.
Meanwhile, with her political career getting bleak, Do-ha’s mother pleads him to go to Germany to further study. Bringing up the issue of how she has suffered enough so he can do that much for her, Do-ha asserts how his mother only cares for her career.
Alone at the cafe, Do-ha arrives. Both meaning to open up about the truth about Do-ha killing someone. He confesses being a murder suspect, but never did the deed. Sol-hee, unfortunately, detects it as a lie.
“I guess you can hear lies, but you can’t hear why.”
Torn between her emotions and the lie that she just can’t disregard, Sol-hee contemplates her situation with Do-ha.
Deuk-chan also meets Do-ha’s mother who wants him to send her son to Germany. With Choi Eom-ho picking up the clues that will lead him to Seung-ju, Deuk-chan worries about his friend and prized composer.
At Sol-hee’s client meeting, she renders her service to an old man whose family and doctor lie about his medical condition. She learns a lesson from the old man how humans lie, and sometimes for a good reason.
She also stumbles on the truth about why Kang-min broke up with her. That is because he was diagnosed with gastric cancer. Agreeing to his request to have dinner together, they come to terms of their secrets.
Discovering her secret, Kang-min is fascinated how she can hear lies but doesn’t hear the whys of those lies. Mustering her courage, she heads to Do-ha’s place but was met by villain Eom-ho.
Do-ha who overhears her conversation with Eom-ho rushes to where she is. On the brink of meeting his ex-lover’s relative, Sol-hee drags him to a corner.
Just when they were about to be discovered, luckily the apartment complex guard steps in to give them a breather.
Time stood still as they gazed at each other’s faces.
My Lovely Liar Episodes 7 and 8 Musings
How obsession clouds judgment is one of the takeaways of My Lovely Liar so far.
We see Sol-hee believes her ability as a faultless fact-finding tool, only for her to realize there are lies borne out of love. Likewise, Do-ha’s firm choice to live in shadow when he knows he didn’t commit a crime reminds us not to validate our ugly past with the opinions of others.
True, in a way, and based on the flashbacks so far, Do-ha is the reason why his ex-girlfriend might have been pushed to the edge. His situation of being an object of an obsessive love warrants a leeway if his ex-gf is still alive. But with her suspicious vanishing, that hopeless fixation still took a toll on his life.
Then, we have Shaon who personifies a one-sided delusion of being able to provide the love she thinks Do-ha needs. Lastly, Do-ha’s mother’s ruling passion for succeeding as a politician contributed to her son’s PTSD.
Despite the dominating picture of obsession in this week’s episode, viewers also frolicked at the engrossing love triangle.
We feel Kang-min’s intentional lie caused him to let go of the love of his life. But how Sol-hee and Do-ha have been communicating well with their emotions gravitate us to root for eventual mutual love admittance.
Take lessons about trusting someone and overcoming self-doubts with Sol-hee and Do-ha in My Lovely Liar!
