Convinced by the recent event along with the warnings she has heard, Nabi ends her intimate relationship with Jae-eon in Nevertheless episode 5.
At the police station, the angry man from the last episode warns Nabi about dating a guy like Jae-eon. Nabi decides to end her intimate relationship with Jae-eon, and avoid communicating with each other.
During their department’s presentation of artworks, Jae-eon volunteers as Nabi’s assistant. They restart their friendly relationship, but Seol-a meets Nabi with a shocking revelation.

“It’s funny right? There’s nothing to end anyway.”
After seeing Jae-eon being beaten up by an angry man, Sol and Ji-wan come to help Nabi and they call the police. At the police station, Nabi witnesses the angry man warning Jae-eon to never contact his younger sister again. He also gives advice to Nabi about the dangers of dating guys like Jae-eon.
Nabi coldly brings Jae-eon ointment for his wound on his lip as she claims to be just returning the favor for nursing her when she was sick. Jae-eon stops Nabi from going home and tells her that he wants to remain friends with her.
Nabi is taken aback by his meaning of friends, and asks him what their relationship is. She expresses her frustrations about how she ignored the warnings she has heard and suggests that they should end this relationship even though ironically there’s none to begin with.
Jae-eon easily agrees with Nabi’s request since she’s the one who gets to decide.
“Art isn’t easy. Making something doesn’t mean it will become an art piece.”
The professor checks on Nabi’s work, and she gives her advice. However, Nabi is inattentive to what her professor is saying since she is bothered with how Jae-eon looked after passing by each other recently. She is contemplating whether Jae-eon was hurt by what she said.
Looking over other students’ sculptures, the professor expresses her disappointment at how everything seems like a mess. She also notices Sol’s work, and asks if this is the effect of turning down the offer to study abroad. Ji-wan overhears what the professor said, and feels betrayed again for not hearing anything about it from Sol.
“You can have different tastes, but there’s a clear line between good food and bad food.”
Nabi eats at the noodle place Do-hyeok is working at, and he looks at Nabi’s presentation. He tells her how he doesn’t know much about art, but has a good feeling while looking at her artworks. Nabi also praises Do-hyeok’s cooking, and she receives a lipstick as a gift from Do-hyeok.
Meanwhile, Gyu-hyun receives a call from Yu Se-hun since they need to know Bit-na’s address as she is already wasted. Gyu-hyun comes to the place they were drinking, and Bit-na drunkenly confesses her feelings to Gyu-hyun. He accepts her confession, and carries her on the way home.
“Thus, an empty area of land. It means a possibility or hope of something happening.”
Jae-eon surprises Nabi while she is talking on the phone with Do-hyeok. He tells Nabi that he is jealous and that she looks better with her hair tied up. He also asks her how long she will keep avoiding him, and then wishes her good luck for her presentation.
After presenting their works, the stage is opened for students who wish to volunteer as assistants. Jae-eon volunteers as Nabi’s assistant along with another student, and shocks everyone in the auditorium.
Nabi feels unconfident with working with metal for the first time, but Jae-eon assures her that he will be there ready to help since after all he is an assistant.
“You were right about me drawing the line. When people cross a certain line, they feel like it’s meaningless. But, I want to change now.”
Several people have noticed that Jae-eon is starting to change. Seol-a notices how Jae-eon changed his hairstyle, as well as his number. When asked about it, Jae-eon responds with how he is sick with himself. Moreover, the boys from their department also notice how Jae-eon rarely hangs out with girls, and that he appears to be purer than before.
In the art studio, Jae-eon apologizes to Nabi for what has happened the day they went to the police station. He states that he wishes to become more sincere, and Nabi tells him that she is rooting for his change. They become busy working with metal, and Jae-eon misses Seol-a’s calls.
“Our relationship took a new turn, and I found peace in my mind within that friendly relationship.”
Nabi is more determined with her sculptures, and she receives compliments from her professor.
On her break to get coffee from the vending machine, Nabi overhears Seol-a on the phone talking about cutting her hair short. Seol-a drops her lighter with a carved butterfly, and Nabi helps her to pick it up.
Nabi courageously asks Seol-a what’s her relationship with Jae-eon, and Seol-a responds that they used to date. However, she also adds that they are currently seeing each other again.
Nabi confirms to Seol-a that she and Jae-eon are just friends, and just when she was about to leave, she turns back and tells Seol-a to keep her hair that way since Jae-eon prefers hairs that are tied up.
Nevertheless Episode 5 Musings
The series has already reached halfway towards its end since it is only set to air ten episodes. So far, we have seen how the relationship of Nabi and Jae-eon go back and forth. At first, Nabi was hesitant because she was clouded with the rumors and doubts about Jae-eon.
However, she still chose to give in to her attraction and have a good time with Jae-eon. Now that something major has happened, she chose to end her intimate relationship with Jae-eon, but become friends again after Jae-eon volunteered as an assistant to Nabi.
At the first half of this episode, we see that Nabi chose to coldly end her relationship with Jae-eon. In the latter half, the ice is broken between Jae-eon and Nabi as they start to become friendly with each other again. Their relationship is entertaining to watch, but realistically speaking, this may be a toxic relationship everyone would wish to avoid.
The thrill at first is exciting, but to be put in a position where you constantly doubt yourself in the relationship is unhealthy. The viewers’ point of view is similar to Nabi’s since we also wish to know more about Jae-eon and also give him another chance.
Do-hyeok appears to be a good guy whom Nabi should keep around. He is pure and sincere with his feelings, and we see that Nabi also knows about his good points. In the next episodes, viewers shall look forward to more scenes of Nabi and him together.
Towards the end of this episode, we see the changes in Jae-eon, and even the people around him have noticed it. However, when he was still tied up with Seol-a, something still felt suspicious with his change. He is ready to change, but there’s still mystery with his relationship with Seol-a that needs to be uncovered.
For the next episodes, viewers shall see whether what Seol-a has said is true. What will happen with Jae-eon and Nabi’s relationship?
We shall also continue to dig deeper on Jae-eon’s character as he always appears to be one call away from Seol-a. Moreover, it is also expected to see Nabi bonding more with Do-hyeok.
