Nevertheless Episode 3 Key Moments

“What is this emotion? I hope it’s just love. Not childish jealousy.”

People from their gathering sleep in Nabi’s house, but Nabi is still up as she examines her emotions towards Jae-eon when they kissed. She sits up and stares at Jae-eon from her bed. Jae-eon also wakes up and stares back at Nabi.

Sol and Ji-wan eat at a restaurant in the morning and talk about Nabi and Jae-eon from last night. They talk loudly and agree not to mention it to Nabi or Bit-na. Yang Do-hyeok, who was the server in the restaurant, overhears the conversation and smiles.

Confused with her current relationship with Jae-eon, Nabi searches the internet on the possible meaning of her experience the other night. Sol sees her, and Nabi decides to consult her thoughts to Sol without mentioning it was her own experience. Sol answers her question by saying that in the end, it still depends on who the other person is.

“Love is what can make even the roughest person become as soft as the sand on a beach.”

Nabi contemplates in their workshop how Jae-eon sees her. She hesitates to be the first one to message him after their kiss since she might appear clingy.

Their professor checks upon their works and encourages the students to date as it is the best inspiration for art. She shares that it’s saddening how she once had a student who flirts around with no strings attached.

Ji-wan, together with her blind date, sees Sol with a man. Sol tries her best to compensate the man for previously spilling coffee on his shirt through a meal. The man rejects monetary compensation and wishes to see her again after their meal together.

“I feel guilty. They’re supposed to be free, but they’re locked up because of me.”

Checking her phone with zero messages from Jae-eon, Nabi goes down to Jae-eon’s work area. She sees him working on his project, and overhears his conversation on the phone with Seol-a. Nabi hides and follows Jae-eon just to see that he happily meets up with Seol-a on campus.

Nabi buys food in the convenience store and meets again the freshman Kim Eun-ha whom she sat next to at the gathering. He asks for her phone number, and Nabi gives it to him. From above, Jae-eon sees them, and Seol-a notices Jae-eon’s eyes towards Nabi.

Seol-a sees that Jae-eon still uses the same lighter, and checks up on how his butterflies are. He says that he has decided to free them soon, and she praises him that he has grown up. Jae-eon shares that the girl they saw is just a friend and her name is Nabi. Seol-a says that it must have been fate that the girl’s name means butterflies also. However, Jae-eon assures Seol-a that she is his fate.

“There aren’t many pieces that depict love just as it is. Everyone thinks they have to make it look cool.”

Nabi talks to Bit-na about Jae-eon. She expresses that it was useless to invite Jae-eon over since nothing happened between them on the night they invited people over.  Nabi opens up that she saw Jae-eon with a girl last night, and asks Bit-na if she was sure that he was not into dating. Eun-han greets Nabi from afar, and Bit-na tells Nabi that Eun-han might be a bit boring.

Eun-han brings Nabi some fruit snacks in the workshop and tells her that he has seen her work during his entrance exam. He shares his admiration for her realistic depiction of love through her work, and Nabi thanks him for cheering her up since she gave up on the piece she was working on recently.

Eun-han invites her to watch a movie together, but Jae-eon joins their conversation and shares unsolicited remarks about kisses. Nabi drags Jae-eon outside to talk, and Eun-han overhears their conversation. In the end, Eun-han is persistent in watching a movie together with Nabi, and she agrees to watch one with him.

“This is it. Going on a date in the daytime. Sweet and innocent attraction. Eating and watching a movie together like a normal date. Something that suits me perfectly.”

Nabi and Eun-han eat together, and play in an escape room. In her mind, Nabi thinks that this type of relationship and date is the one that suits her most. While waiting for Eun-han who is ordering, Nabi sees her picture with her ex and wonders why it is still on her phone.

After the movie, Eun-han checks up on Nabi who seems to be not feeling well. They talk about the movie while walking, and Nabi says it was too cheesy. However, for Eun-han he says he enjoyed it a lot and aspires to have the same relationship similar to the one in the movie.

Eun-han opens up to Nabi that he overheard the conversation, but affirms to her that it’s fine since she and Jae-eon are already over. He then gives Nabi a hug, and he also attempts to kiss her, but Nabi dodges it and laughs. She thinks that he is cute, but lacks the sparks she had with Jae-eon. Nabi then decides to delete Jae-eon’s number and messages on her phone.

“You mean you want to think of me as a jerk, but I actually seem okay, right? I’m not such a bad guy, am I?”

Ji wan is disheartened after discovering that she is unaware of a lot of things about Sol. Nabi comforts her and agrees to go together to their department’s booth. Ji-wan meets her other friends on their way, and Nabi visits their department’s booth alone.

Nabi sees Eun-han, and calls him. However, Eun-han tells Nabi that their booth is full, and she should visit other booths instead. Suddenly, a woman clings onto Eun-han’s arm, and Nabi feels embarrassed since Jae-eon was also watching from afar.

Nabi goes home and feels unwell. Jae-eon calls her number and she picks it up not knowing it was him since she deleted his number. Jae-eon tells her that he is just near her house, but he also notices that Nabi was sick during their call. He worries when their call is suddenly dropped and calls emergency services.

However, it turns out she was just out to buy some medicine. He takes care of Nabi all night, and talks about how he seems to be a jerk but is not actually one. In the morning, Jae-eon prepares for school and washes up in Nabi’s place. Jae-eon ties Nabi’s hair, and they get intimate.

Nevertheless Episode 3 Musings

Viewers are briefly introduced to new characters such as Yang Do-hyeok (Chae Jong Hyeop) and Yoon Seol-a (Lee Yeol Eum) in this episode. We see that Seol-a can stir things up between Jae-eon and Nabi, and we are not yet sure what her motives are in the next episodes.

The friendships in the series are also given more light in this episode. We see how Ji-wan felt betrayed for not knowing a lot of things about her best friend Sol. We also see how Bit-na and Gyu-hyun (Kim Min-gwi) blur the lines of their friendship by their kiss at the bar.

Eun-han is quite a shocker in this episode. Personally, I expected that his character would just be the cute and nice freshman who admires Nabi sincerely. However, after seeing how he used Nabi as a replacement for his crush when he was in high school, I really flipped out.

We can see the paradox in Eun-han and Jae-eon’s characters. Eun-han appears to be nice and accommodating, but we are disappointed to see how he treated Nabi in their department’s booth. On the other hand, Jae-eon appears to be a jerk who will hurt Nabi’s  heart but is actually someone who takes care of her.

Fans of the series are torn on whether Jae-eon is a walking red flag or not. Some say that Jae-eon is not a walking red flag since he has already openly made it clear that he is not into dating and likes to keep it casual. There’s nothing wrong with keeping things casual as long as both parties are aware and agree on this.

In this episode, we see that Nabi really opens her heart again to Jae-eon even after seeing him with different women. With that, she should be prepared as she is already aware of what dangers are possible in her relationship with Jae-eon.

In the preview for the next episode, we see Jae-eon and Nabi continue being intimate and even growing closer than ever. Viewers shall also look forward to unfold the main characters’ stories from the past that involve Do-hyeok and Seol-a. Besides that, we shall also see how Bit-na and Gyu-hyun’s friendship would turn out as well as Sol and Ji-wan’s.
