Our Blooming Youth Episodes 7 and 8 Highlights
“Everything is a lie. I will never trust a single word coming from your mouth again.”
Discovering dried peony petals in the incense burner of the shaman, Jae-yi rushes to the East Palace remembering Yeong was also in the kitchen when she was preparing breakfast.
At that same moment, Lee Hwan also read Yeong’s love letter confirming his relationship with Jae-yi. As it is a man’s words before his death, he strongly believes it to be true. Thus, he orders Jae-yi out not wanting to hear any words from her anymore.
Finding Tae-gang locking the room assigned to her, he refused to open it when she mentioned there was something there that belongs to her.
She pleads for him to relay her message to Lee Hwan to check what she left behind. But Tae-gang who has not been in a friendly relationship with her responds he does not feel oblige to do what she’s requesting.
“Do not trust anyone. That’s the only way you’re going to survive in the palace.”
Heartbroken to let Jae-yi go, his newly-trusted person, Lee Hwan surmises his conversation with his father, the King. When his arm was wounded a year ago, they conversed on his situation, and his father firmly advised him not to reveal his crippled arm.
Asserting his mission to take care of his arm, the King also tells him not to trust anyone. That before being a good and virtuous king, he needs to survive first.
Apparently, since they transcended from a lowborn queen, they need to put extra effort against the government officials of noble birth who wants to take over the throne from themselves.
Before the sun rises, Ga-ram heads to Myung-jin’s laboratory. She is already aware that she is on a wanted list. Myung-jin is also keen to protect her and Jae-yi not knowing they are within his reach.
Surprised to see a body sleeping on the lab’s corpse table, she walks stealthily but hides right away when the body moved.
Seeing Jae-yi, she checks on her and prepares food. She also relays her situation and remains hopeful they will surpass their problems and will be able to go back to Gaesong.
Meanwhile, Lee Hwan did not sleep the whole night, and as his staff dresses him, he is reminded of Jae-yi’s positivity.
Tae-gang also relays Jae-yi’s message to visit his library and sees the peony flower petals from the incense burner. From afar, he also watches her do tasks assigned to her.
“She may be an immoral woman. But as long as I don’t burn this marriage consent form, Min Jae-yi is my woman and I’m bound to protect her.”
Learning the Crown Prince took the Gaesong murder case notes, Sung-on visited Lee Hwan to inquire why he is keen to investigate the case.
The prince reasons wanting to know about his old master’s case. He also reminds his friend that Jae-yi is considered a dead woman already even if she comes back. But Sung-on is resolute to protect her despite her supposed transgression.
Sung-on asserts they don’t know which sides of the story are true. Lee Hwan also declares his willingness to protect her because he is his master’s daughter.
He promises his friend that if Jae-yi can prove her innocence, he will send her back to him.
“Why would I miss you when I barely know you?”
After a night’s drink, Jae-yi wakes up and finds Lee Hwan standing in front of the lab. Bringing the incense burner, Myung-jin works his magic. He also made sure to tease Lee Hwan appearing as Scholar Park that he could have missed them so he did the prince’s special task.
Clearing he’s just on the prince’s order, the three can tell that he’s lying with his string of excuses.
Taking the opportunity to converse with the prince, Jae-yi asked for them to speak in private. She tells him how she regained her memory of the same flower burning while she was cooking breakfast and how Yeong also came into the kitchen that unfortunate day.
Asserting Yeong is not the type of person who would do what was indicated in the letter, she leaves to go to the palace. Inwardly, she was hoping that Lee Hwan visited the lab for reconciliation.
At the palace, she carries two chairs almost her size, and when she takes a rest, she badmouths Lee Hwan to the fullest. Unknown to her, he is in the front seat of all the bad words she’s spewing.
Caught in surprise, she falters her step and almost fell into the nearby lake, if not for Lee Hwan’s quick hand.
Giving an alibi that she’s just talking to herself, she conveyed her thoughts that she can understand his predicament of having reservations after deciding to trust her.
Then, she makes a sound argument using Confucius’s teaching of how a leader should never let go of trust. She adds that a good leader should not lose his closest people.
Belatedly, he apologizes for his rash action. He also confessed that it was his intention when he visited Myung-jin’s lab.
Pushing her luck, Jae-yi asks if she can work again at the East Palace, but he refuses considering his conversation with Sung-on. He also denies her access to his library.
“Know that I do not have plans on losing today.”
A friendly polo match between Lee Hwan’s private guards and Sung-on’s army has been set.
Betting on who will win, Lee Hwan overheard Jae-yi rooting for Sung-on’s team. Initially going to sit out the game, Lee Hwan is pumped up to prove his polo prowess. He also warns Tae-gang that they cannot lose the match.
In a heated exchange of goals, Lee Hwan who was fired up owing to Jae-yi’s loud cheering for Sung-on’s troop came from behind and scores the last goal that captured the win for his team.
Later, he bumps into Jae-yi pompously declaring she bet on the wrong team, which of course made her feel dejected. She was also helped by Sung-on who tells her how she was rooting for his team but her eyes never left Lee Hwan.
Proceeding with the shaman’s interrogation, all the dignitaries attend the inquisition. Just then, she begins to throw another curse directed at the royal family. A snake hiding in her clothes crawls to strangle her.
The King who was about to wield his sword for receiving the curse was almost bitten by the snake, if not for Sung-on’s mediation. Dead on the spot, the last mark is found on the shaman’s arm.
At the same time, mysterious red letters were scattered in the capital. Jae-yi, Ga-ram, and Myung-jin run after the masked men. Simultaneously, at the palace, the shaman’s curse of a plum tree burning also erupted. Assessing the situation, Lee Hwan asks Tae-gang to bring Jae-yi to the palace.
However, Jae-yi was lured into a trap by the man she was chasing. On the brink of danger, will she escape or be helped by someone?
Our Blooming Youth Episodes 7 and 8 Musings
Building the expected love triangle tension that would put Hwan, Jae-yi, and Sung-on; we can look back to the conversations in these episodes once Jae-yi’s identity is revealed and if ever she can prove her innocence.
But first, the pressing concern is how they can crack the labyrinthine challenge of the hiding villain determined to cause trouble to the crown prince.
A lot of cryptic characters being introduced forming the elaborate puzzle heightens the intrigue of the story.
The exchange of secret messages among the palace people is really making modern gossip less interesting these days if you are watching the series.
Lee Hwan has all the right to worry because viewers are convinced that traitors thrive inside the palace. For all we know, the evident enemy might not be the real enemy or there could be other enemies.
His worries are valid just as Jae-yi’s doubts about Yeong’s claim are, given she forgot pieces of her memories.
If the Lee-Hwan-Jae-Yi couple is bent on figuring out the similarities in the circumstances of their problems, the master-apprentice duo of Myung-jin and Ga-ram are doing a great job in executing the comic scenes. The same goes for the bickering exchange among Hwan, Tae-gang, and Jae-yi.
Can the shaman’s curse be proven to be a farce? What is the real deal on Myung-jin’s master and the tavern couple’s secret dealings?
Witness how Lee Hwan and Jae-yi uncover the secrets and fight against their enemies in Our Blooming Youth every Monday and Tuesday on tvN.
