Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist Episodes 5 & 6 Highlights
Previously on Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist, Yoo Se-poong, and the whole Gyesoo Clinic team up to save a member of their family, Man-bok. Luckily, Royal Inspector Jo Shin-woo allowed them to borrow his horses to catch the culprit before Man-bok’s execution.
At the right time, Se-poong and the others arrived at the docks before Lady Hye-yeon was taken away. Furthermore, she finally fights back and helps the guards to arrest Lee Gil-soo.
She also stood as a witness and revealed how Gil-soo murdered Gae-ban. In this way, Lady Hye-yeon achieves justice for her childhood best friend’s horrific death.
“He is thirsty, speaks incoherently, has a headache, and is trembling. It seems like dehydration. I cannot tell. Or if the wound on his back has anything to do with it.”
After treating Lady Hye-yeon’s hand tremors and saving Man-bok, Se-poong and Gyesoo Clinic receives another mysterious medical case. A madam with royal blood rushed her illegitimate son, Seok-cheol who saw a ghost that might affect his health.
As they were checking his pulse, they notice bruises around the child’s body. Se-poong gives out his diagnosis but cannot have his final finding about the root of Seok-cheol’s illness.
Since the family is one of the most powerful and influential families in Sorak Village, there is much gossip about the concubine who joins the family two years ago. Eun-woo and the rest don’t believe Se-poong’s predictions that the madam was abusing Seok-cheol.
Like they always do, Gyesoo Clinic members visited Seok-cheol’s residence to check his environment and verify the gossip. It seems that he was being bullied by the madam’s two sons since their father shows more favoritism to his illegitimate son.
“Until then, could you be my hands? Could you do that for me?”
Furthermore, Seok-cheol also turns out to be Eun-woo’s first patient since she started to learn medicine. To support Eun-woo, Se-poong lends a special gift he received as a physician to Eun-woo — his acupuncture kit.
Considering that he still suffers from trauma and had tremors, Se-poong is still afraid to perform acupuncture. As he is still in the process of recovery, he knows that Eun-woo will safely keep and use it to treat her patients.
Ever since Eun-woo has gotten Se-poong’s acupuncture kit, she practices acupuncture during her free time. As Man-bok heard this news, he voluntarily lends his body to Eun-woo to practice.
During Se-poong’s humble beginnings, Man-bok also helped his Young Master practice by also lending his body and withstanding pain.
“Yoo Se-yeob is the King’s childhood friend. You must get rid of him in a way that cannot be tracked. Leave no trace.”
Back in Hanyang, Jo Tae-hak starts to move his pawns again in fear of someone revealing the crimes they did after the late King’s death. He appointed his adoptive son, Royal Inspector Jo Shin-woo on killing Se-poong without any trace.
Also, he interrogated a physician who conversed with Yoo Hoo-myung before he was assassinated. In addition, Tae-hak is also searching for a lady who worked in the Royal Kitchen who seems to know about the poison added to the late King’s food.
However, Royal Inspector Shin-woo seems to be also having his own investigation of the acupuncture needle that burned from poison. He has been asking different physicians, even Physician Gye, about a certain poison that can burn metal.
I did not save you. You saved yourself. All I did was help you a little. And Seok-cheol will be fine without us. now. You are the only person who can save yourself. Do you understand?
Returning to Seok-cheol’s case, Gyesoo Clinic once again joins forces to help Se-poong identify his illness. Also, they delve more to point out who is responsible for abusing Seok-cheol.
After many follow-up checkups and information gathered, Se-poong identified that Seok-cheol has been being fed with a large amount of salt. This causes him to hallucinate and dehydrated.
As they were still searching for the culprit, a manservant from Seok-cheol’s residence reported to them that Seok-Cheol died. When they arrived, Se-poong can still feel a faint pulse from the child and persuaded Eun-woo that he can still be saved.
Using Eun-woo as his hands, he gave instructions on where Eun-woo should perform acupuncture. Luckily, they were able to save him from death and also got clues from him.
They set out a trap and caught red-handed Seok-cheol’s mother who appears to be the one feeding her own son porridge with much salt. Se-poong and the rest also find a way to free Seok-cheol from his father’s hands and pursue his dreams to be a physician in Hanyang.

In this week’s episode, the series highlights the back story of Jang-goon and how he ended up in the Gyesoo Clinic. It turns out that Physician Gye rescued him from his father who doesn’t support Jang-goon’s medication.
With his own money, he adopted him and treated him like his own son. Jang-goon, who loves scorched rice, started to form a meaningful story behind it as he remembers that Physician Gye gave him scorched rice when he rescued him.
Since then, he doesn’t share scorched rice with anyone but Physician Gye. However, Jang-goon starts sharing his favorite food when he saw a resemblance to his past in Seok-cheol’s situation.
