Snowdrop Episode 9 Key Moments

Doubts and fears continue to envelop the hostage-taking situation at Hosu Univesity’s dormitory. At the end of episode 8, Young-ro snatches the bomb detonator by distracting Su-ho with her premeditated sweet affection.

“Please believe me. I don’t want to make you suffer anymore.”

Surprised at Young-ro’s move, Su-ho calmly negotiates but she is bent on not believing him anymore. He gets back the detonator and pleads with her to believe that they will be leaving after nine days. Unknown to them, Dr. Kang overheard their conversation.

Knowing who slipped the information about the detonator to Young-ro, Su-ho speaks with Gang-mu privately. There the ANSP agent continues his pitch of how they are bound to be disregarded as irreplaceable pawns since money is at stake. He further assures him that Young-ro as a bargaining chip won’t be of any help.

To relent to his ideas, Su-ho orders Gang-mu to bring such evidence that both their countries are conspiring to kill them. He instructs him to relay it to Han-na who will be coming to the dorm to give the supplies. The South camp carries on with pretending they have the upper hand in the situation with a press conference.

Snowdrop ep 10

“Hand the detonator over to me. You let a girl take it away from you. How can I trust you with it?”

Straightening up Su-ho, Dr. Kang commands him to give the detonator revealing she knows he had a lapse causing it to be snatched away. She also warns him to revive his patriotic spirit or she will kill him. Adding to that, she instructs him to release hostages to annoy Nam Tae-il who has an impossibly irritating hubris.

Su-ho brings Han-na to where Gang-mu is to proceed with their agreement. Receiving the order from Gang-mu, she was given a deadline to find it so she can bring it the next day when he demands more supplies.

Han-na escorts the released 30 hostages infuriating Han Tae-il who has left no choice but to proceed with the damage control in case the students slip they only had three hostage-takers. Successfully placing a bug on Tae-il, Han-na proceeds with her mission.

At the dormitory, Gang-mu affirms the truth of what Su-ho told her and explains the upcoming election is the cause of their situation. He also tips her that Dr. Kang is also a North Korean spy.

After speaking with Tae-il about the scripted escape the South is planning for them, he succumbs to another bout of mental stress. Director Eun who learns about Tae-il’s decision to force Gang-mu back inside rushes to the camp to question him. But the latter’s contingency plan is to sacrifice him.

Han-na who’s secretly listening to the conversation confirms the evil ploy of their seniors who are willing to abandon their people and innocent civilians to please their boss. Director Eun insists on saving all the students at all costs including his daughter. But Tae-il and Chief Ahn acquiesce to play by the ears when the time comes.

“Just like the previously released people, have them sign an NDA. Scare them a bit and send them to our hospital.”

Unwittingly, the South camp is not aware that a diligent news reporter has caught on to the plans. He even follows the hostages taken to be briefed about what they cannot say.  When Tae-il and Chief Ahn learn about the planted bug, they easily pin it to the delivery guy, who is actually the news reporter.

They find him with Han-na who just secured evidence with the reporter. At that same moment, Gang-mu called her private radio to check on the mission. With Han-na held captive, Gang-mu proceeds in convincing the wavering Su-ho.

Finding out that Ms. Pi is an ANSP spy, Gang-mu colludes with her to escape the dormitory using Young-ro. On the day of their escape plan, they demand to wash up as they all smell and itch already.

Dividing and conquering tasks, Gang-mu, Ms. Pi and the students move to the escape route after subduing the injured North Korean spy. But they overlooked Bun-ok’s greedy nature who sneaked out to find the bag of money.

Dr. Kang who was lured by Gang-mu to the 5th-floor room frees herself and rushes back inside. Gyeok-chan also discovers the breakout. Rushing to find Young-ro, Su-ho locates her and uses their secret “knock code” to assure her that he’s the one on the door of her hiding place.

Just then Gang-mu arrives and they engage in a brawl with the latter subduing Su-ho. All prepared to exit at the hall, the booby trap on the door needs to be disarmed first and was taken care of Gang-mu. On the cusp of finally escaping, Dr. Kang arrives warning not to see any slight movement. But someone didn’t listen so the bomb in place erupted.

Snowdrop Episode 9 Musings

Snowdrop has mastered scintillating cliffhangers that even if it’s three quarters hostage-taking scenario and a quarter romance, viewers are drawn to how the negotiation culminates. Feeling bad for Su-ho being taken advantage of by the woman he adores by cooperating with Gang-mu warrants reasonable sympathy.

Actually, the depiction of devious moves from the South camp featured in the series sees a need to improve. Because the imbalance might trigger the group already whining for the story’s coverage

All the while, amidst the controversies, the series has vouched for the story underscoring romance. Passing the 9th episode, it’s about time to funnel the story to it seriously. Honestly, we were not prepared when we were given doses of online hostage-taking situations. Even in real life, dragging this plight is also taxing to virtual onlookers.

This episode of Snowdrop has made an extra emphasis on Lee Gang-mu’s collaboration project with Lim Su-ho. Interestingly, both have a strong sense of patriotism. With life, personal convictions and love on the line – they are forced to compromise. As sworn enemies, we don’t know how much higher they can take us with their switching friends-to-enemies front.

Extended Virtual Hostage-Taking Situation

Could it be that Su-ho is also Dr. Kang’s unrequited love? If she is, we have to fear for Young-ro’s fate and the possibility of non-fulfillment of its projected main love story.

While we are all worried about the innocent students caught in between the two Korea’s conspiracy, the elite wives’ club members are giving a unique amusement. For their own power aspirations, they take the ongoing unfortunate situation as the lucky-or-not roulette that would seal their prosperous fate.

Now that expected casualties ensue for the bomb detonated, we can be sure they will most likely be worried if 13 ladies are dead or alive.

Other than that, with the failed escape plan, we can only bet how much Dr. Kang would go Voldemort to the remaining hostages.

Inevitably, she will now be out in the open leading the team which most likely will force Su-ho to be at odds with her because of his desire to protect Young-ro.
