The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract Episodes 9 and 10 Highlights

“What I am saying is, I will never let you go, Yeon-woo”

Our leads are now aware of what happened in the Joseon timeline. Yet it won’t scare them or make them push away each other. Hand in hand, they will find a way to untangle this ill fate and live happily together.

Meanwhile, Hye-sook has to face the music for making Tae-ha’s illness public. Grandpa wants her out of the house and company, along with Tae-min. But Hye-sook has gone too far to give up. If Tae-ha dies, the idea of recruiting a management specialist will be buried, right? And given how Tae-ha is practically a living corpse without his medications, it will be a piece of cake to get rid of him.

Cue: a hitman spiking Tae-ha’s drink with a syringe. Tae-ha sips on the drink, making me all anxious he will collapse down. Except, it is all an act to catch Hye-sook red-handed. Noticing someone tailing them, Tae-ha has the man followed and captured on the camera getting ordered to mess with Tae-ha’s drink.

“That wasn’t me. The one who killed Yoon-hee was your grandfather.”

With conclusive evidence up his sleeve, Tae-ha marches to threaten Hye-sook. He will turn the man and the evidence in. Let’s see if she can survive this. But though she clearly considered it, Hye-sook has no idea of this stupid plan.

Hye-sook counters by revealing some shocking intel. The one behind Tae-ha’s mother’s death isn’t Hye-sook as Tae-ha always thought, but Grandpa, the one he believed was the only one on his side. Viewing Hye-sook’s crush on Tae-ha’s father and the help he could get from her father as a win-win situation, Grandpa had Tae-ha’s mother locked in the annex and left her to die.

Hye-sook, who happened to be there that day, overheard that evil plan and tried to save Tae-ha’s mother. But young Tae-ha spotted her, giving Grandpa the window to blame everything on her and shamelessly act as if he was the only one caring for Tae-ha.

“Leave her alone. Don’t do anything. I am no longer your grandson.”

Hit by this, Tae-ha gets devastated. He wants to confront Grandpa and learn the truth. But he is too scared to do this. Turning a blind eye won’t work either. He is torn, not knowing what to do. But as Yeon-woo says, no matter how hard the truth is, one should face it and not run away.

Mustering up the courage, Tae-ha goes to face Grandpa. And unsurprisingly, he is remorseless. Grandpa only wanted his son to inherit everything. Yet Tae-ha’s mother got in the way. So, he got rid of her. Just like he is planning to do with Yeon-woo.

Tae-ha warns Grandpa not to touch Yeon-woo. If he does, Tae-ha will no longer be his grandson. On his way out, Tae-ha collapses down. Hence, Yeon-woo learns he needs to get hospitalized right away.

“You were all he had after he had lost his world, but you took advantage of his love and trust.”

Realizing how hard Tae-ha has it, Yeon-woo voluntarily walks into the lion’s den and goes to meet Grandpa. It is quite a risky move since it ends up with Yeon-woo getting kidnapped. Tae-ha receives an anonymous message with Yeon-woo’s location. And though I thought it was a trap, he finds Yeon-woo there and saves her.

Tae-ha goes to confront Grandpa one last time. But someone has beat him to it, Hye-sook’s right-hand man, Mr. Hwang. He has been harboring a grudge against Grandpa for causing his pregnant wife’s death. Thus, he entered the company and hid behind Hye-sook, pulling the strings without anyone noticing. He is also the one staging the murder attempt and sending the message.

Seeing how Grandpa is as unrepentant as ever, Mr. Hwang projects a pot on him. Tae-ha rushes over to protect Grandpa. And we end this week with Tae-ha passing out, not knowing who got hit. What a cliffhanger!

The Story Of Park’s Marriage Contract Episodes 9 and 10 Musings

Earlier, I thought this journey into the future was to save Tae-ha and catch the one trying to kill him. But as we come to learn, the past has to be changed first if we want a different ending. This means Yeon-woo’s time in the future is almost up, and she has to go back home.

Yeon-woo can choose to stay by Tae-ha’s side, but it will lead to his eventual death. I mean, his illness has been rapidly getting worse since her arrival. And his heart will eventually stop if she remains by his side. What a cruel fate!

Though brief, we get a brotherly moment between Tae-ha and Tae-min after the latter learns what Hye-sook did and calls her out for it. It might be late, but I still hope to see the two brothers standing by each other’s side to get out of this messy family.

We also rewind back to Joseon times for more flashbacks. (It is sort of getting repetitive, given we almost know everything now.) Joseon Grandpa humiliated Hye-sook for not being able to get either of her “two sons” to pass the state exam. Bribery, cheating, whatever method. She has to do whatever it takes to make them government officials. But I am not sure if poisoning Tae-ha and murdering his widow to get a government position as a reward was also included on the list.

Follow Yeon-woo as she solves the mystery of her time-traveling journey in The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract! International fans can watch it on Viu!
