Tastefully Yours Episodes 5 and 6 Highlights

“What good will come from two horrible personalities getting involved?”

Getting caught kissing by Myung-suk and Chun-seung, our leads get embarrassed, and Yeon-joo hits Beom-woo to diffuse the situation. The next day, the mood is awkward with Yeon-joo avoiding Beom-woo and Myung-suk and Chun-seung having fun teasing them. An embarrassed Yeon-joo calls it a mistake. And though he plays along, Beom-woo looks disappointed.

Getting drunk, Beom-woo makes a fuss about what a good catch he is. Before turning him down, Beom-woo wants to go on a date first and get a chance to woo Yeon-joo. Despite being attracted to him too, Yeon-joo shuts Beom-woo down, arguing that workplace romance only exists in rom-coms. Not that Beom-woo gives up, yet keeps making plans for their date.

Meanwhile, an uninvited guest, Yeon-joo’s ex-boyfriend (cameo by Yoo Yeon-sook), visits the restaurant. Having graduated from a renowned culinary school at the top of her class, Yeon-joo got a job at a 3-star Japanese restaurant, where she met her ex-boyfriend, who also worked there. They were happily in love until suddenly everything went spiralling down.

Shouldering the heat for her ex-boyfriend’s mistake, Yeon-joo resigned and returned to Korea. Having kept his job, the ex-boyfriend is now the head chef. He didn’t bother to call Yeon-joo even once after that incident, and only thought of visiting her now. Needless to say, Yeon-joo isn’t that pleased to meet Mr. Ex-boyfriend and cries in secret, having been reminded of the past.

Getting a reservation for a pre-wedding families’ meeting, our quartet has a tricky mission ahead of them. The groom is Korean, and the bride is French. But the parents, especially the groom’s side, aren’t that welcoming of this union. The bride’s parents will fly from France, yet only the groom’s father will attend, and he only eats Korean food.

At first, the situation is tense with the groom’s father nitpicking about everything. But after tasting the food and enjoying the savory flavors, he starts to loosen up. Luckily, it all goes well, and the groom’s father wants to book our quartet for the wedding dinner too. Everyone looks pleased, and Beom-woo asks for a wedding invitation to congratulate the couple.

A giddy Beom-woo can’t wait to leave, so he and Yeon-joo can go on their date. Yet just then, Mr. Ex-boyfriend shows up, having been invited by Yeon-joo. But it is to tie up loose ends. Afterwards, she catches up with Beom-woo for their date. Poor Beom-woo peeled tons of onions to rent a rooftop and watch a movie, but Yeon-joo sleeps through it. Taking a walk, Yeon-joo opens up to Beom-woo about her past and how she met Mr. Ex-boyfriend. Then, she reveals Mr. Ex-boyfriend wants to scout her, getting Beom-woo taken aback.

“Chef Mo overestimated us big time.”

Despite acting nonchalant about the offer, Yeon-joo tosses and turns all night. In the morning, she is gone, entrusting the restaurant to the others and leaving many instructions they must follow in her absence along with food recipes, without mentioning when she will return. To their credit, they try their best to fill in for her, but there is only so much they can do without Yeon-joo in charge.

For someone who was obsessed with stealing the recipes, Beom-woo is rather sad and feels jealous that Yeon-joo is with another man. But he doesn’t need to worry much or have “dreams” about Yeon-joo and Mr Ex-boyfriend getting back together. Yeon-joo only went there to see her former mentor, who has dementia, and bid him goodbye.

While discussing how they can help their former mentor get better and looking around at the restaurant, Mr. Ex-boyfriend brings up the scouting offer again. But he is interrupted by Beom-woo, who flew there because he misses Yeon-joo and isn’t about to let Mr. Ex-boyfriend steal her from him.

Following what happened last week, Sun-woo decided to cut Young-hye loose. Yet she won’t back out without a fight, setting her eyes on Yeon-joo’s recipe book after learning for herself how proficient Yeon-joo is. But when the spy she sent there fails to snatch the recipe book, Young-hye does some sleuthing about who Sun-woo will bring in as her replacement.

It seems Sun-woo is planning a merger and acquisition deal with the Japanese restaurant where Yeon-joo used to work, though we have to say that is quite a surprising move. As we end this week, Beom-woo gets a call from Young-hye revealing Sun-woo’s plan to bring Mr Ex-boyfriend onboard, getting him perplexed.

Tastefully Yours Episodes 5 and 6 Musings

More than Sun-woo scheming to get those 3 stars or Young-hye plotting to retaliate, we want to follow our quartet as they become a found family and achieve success. So, we hope things turn better next week and the Ex-boyfriend’s plotline gets resolved too. Even if Yeon-joo chose to cover for his fault, he should have taken responsibility and admitted to his mistake. But it is now too late to correct anything or try to win Yeon-joo back.

On a lighter note, it was pleasant to see Beom-woo show growth and become less of a money-grubber. His past version would jump at the chance to steal the recipes. But he only worried about being apart from Yeon-joo. Though we wish Sun-woo would get his desserts at the end of the drama, we don’t want Beom-woo to take over his family business yet stay with Yeon-joo and the others. He looks genuinely happy and seems more relaxed and humane. Something that isn’t applicable in that cutthroat environment.
