The Mysterious Class Episode 2 Recap
“Fine, we’ll have to find him ourselves.”
The second episode of The Mysterious Class picks up straight where the previous episode left off. In the middle of class, all of the students look at Yedam and the strange sound of the word bunshinsaba comes out of the demo of ‘Wayo’ he has made for his review. A nervous and frightened Jeongwoo yells out for them to turn it off.
The students wonder over what could have made the sound, as Jihoon questions whether it is a prank. They come to realize that it can’t be a prank, and that it must have been a ghost. Doyoung, standing at the head of the class, asks the ghost to leave the room if they don’t belong.
When no one leaves, he announces that the class will need to find the ghost themselves. Jihoon cuts the tension by pranking a frightened Jeongwoo into believing that there might be a ghost behind him.
“You and I both played bunshinsaba, so why is it only happening to me?”
In the dormitory common room, Hyunsuk asks Yedam what he plans on doing with his demo. Yedam admits that he was so scared by the sounds that he doesn’t want to touch it. Yedam says it’s unfair that the bunshinsaba is only targeting him when both he and Hyunsuk chanted the curse. Hyunsuk claims that it’s because Yedam didn’t finish saying the curse.
Junghwan asks how Hyunsuk knows so much about the ghost, to which he defends himself by saying that spooky things interest him. Hyunsuk also claims that none of the people sitting around the table – including himself, Yedam, Junghwan, Haruto, and Mashiho – could possibly be the ghost, as they are all sharing a meal of red beans, which ghosts are apparently afraid of.
In the bedrooms, Jaehyuk asks Haruto whether everyone is still worried about the ghost, and reminds him that midterm exams are coming up. Haruto offers Jaehyuk some chrysanthemum tea to calm him down. In another bedroom, Junghwan looks over his YouTube channel and Doyoung continues to study.
In the third bedroom, Jihoon once again pranks Jeongwoo by pretending to be a ghost and grabbing his leg after he gets into bed. And in the fourth bedroom, a worried Yedam plays some music as Yoshi looks through his tarot cards, wondering where Asahi is.
We then cut to Asahi, sitting alone in an art classroom, painting, and the scene fades to black.
“A ghost would be cold. This is the easiest way to find out.”
Outside of the classroom, Hyunsuk measures the students’ temperatures as they walk into class. His theory is that the ghost would be running cold. And he soon believes that Asahi proves this theory when he walks in running a temperature of just 32.2C, well below what he should be running. A security guard looks on at the situation.
On his way to class, Junghwan walks past a classroom with a slightly ajar door. Inside, Asahi is muttering something under his breath to himself as he paints. In the main classroom, Yoshi shows the other students a magic trick where he makes a blue pen disappear and reappear.
Junkyu questions why Haruto carries his books around with him rather than putting them in his locker. Haruto admits that he has actually forgotten his locker combination. Junkyu offers to break it open for him, but Haruto says he has nothing of importance in there.
The teacher who provided Junkyu with milk in the previous episode drops by the class to leave some work for the students to do. He also remarks that the classroom has bad energy.
“You think this is funny? We should be looking for the ghost, not playing pranks.”
As the students watch over the video provided to them, Mashiho tells Yedam that he’s going to the bathroom. In the video, the feed suddenly cuts out and imagery of a dark-clad girl from a ghost movie appears. The students audibly gasp, Jeongwoo more so than anyone else, as Jihoon laughs at him, having clearly played another joke.
Jeongwoo opens the blinds, as the class debates whether playing pranks is the right thing to do and whether there’s really a ghost at all. Accusations run wild as one of the students claims that it might be Yoshi, who made a pen disappear earlier. He refutes the claim by saying it was a magic trick.
Haruto is then also accused, as his face is as pale as a ghost. He looks confused as to why he’s being accused, and Hyunsuk defends him, saying he loves red bean ice flakes.
“Did you . . . curse it?”
As the students wonder who the ghost could be, Hyunsuk finds a method in his ghost book. He looks around the classroom through his hands, and a bird suddenly flies into the window, leaving a bloody stain. Mashiho suddenly rushes into the room with a piece of art depicting someone dressed in red on a throne, with black feathers of a bird surrounding it.
Doyoung and Yedam ask what’s going on, as Junghwan reveals he caught Asahi mumbling a curse under his breath earlier. And Hyunsuk brings up his unusually low temperature and the cold feeling of his arm before. As everyone looks over Asahi, Doyoung asks whether he is the ghost of the classroom.
The Mysterious Class Episode 2 Musings
The Mysterious Class is certainly living up to its title. Fans are split on who the ghost could be. Rumors flow everywhere on social media. Theories also abound.
In the week following the release of the first episode, many fans were convinced that Junghwan was the ghost. The scene where he films himself having lunch for his YouTube vlog shows him very clearly only pretending to eat.
This goes well with Doyoung overhearing the cafeteria lady saying someone didn’t eat their food and that it was a waste. And despite his desperate attempt for a million subscribers, his videos struggle to get more than ten views each.
Another theory strongly followed included Haruto being a ghost. His teaser poster includes the letters “O” and “X” beside him, like in the bunshinsaba ritual. He also wasn’t seen eating in the cafeteria, but rather just staring at the other table. He also conveniently only went over to Junkyu after a teacher had already left.
Fans strongly believe in other students not being the ghost. These include Junkyu, who was seen by a teacher when he was picking up milk. Also, Jaehyuk, did not participate in the soccer game. As well, Doyoung, Jeongwoo, and Jihoon, who were all clearly seen speaking with their soccer opponents.
A new theory on the ghost
But this episode brings forward a new prime suspect. Asahi, a mysterious and quiet student who appears to spend his nights painting pictures of the future.
So, who are the remaining students who are still in the running to be the ghost of the class? Well, the plot of the second episode didn’t do a lot to reduce the suspect list much. The eleven potential suspects from the previous episode still remain, although the main focus has certainly honed in on the mysterious and quiet Asahi.
