Keeping viewers hooked with its puzzling who-is-snowflake-and-watchman game, The Secret Romantic Guesthouse opens new theories in its 3rd week.
A clearer picture of the good and bad camps is also drawn in the latest episodes that boil down to the identity of Lee Seol and the quenchless desire of the current king to obliterate him.

Previously, San gets wounded after meeting Lee Seol’s eunuch. He managed to reach the inn but fell unconscious once he saw Dan-oh.
On the cusp of being found out by Master Jang, a diversion erupts when an arrow hit the palanquin. Through the distraction, Dan-oh brings San inside the inn.
“That girl, Yoon Dan-oh. I was told not to approach him.”
Yu-ha and Si-yeol arrive to check on San and they hope that he survives the night. Si-yeol’s concocted medicine did wonders overnight as San woke up in the morning.
At a tavern, Si-yeol’s face turns grim eavesdropping on the conversation of people about the new prince born to the King. Unknown to him, Master Jang again asked his man to investigate the scholars at Ihwawon.
Pouring his fury on the evil eunuch, Master Jang gets information that the Watchman warned him of approaching Dan-oh.
The next day, he summons Dan-oh and orders him to inform him if he sees the Watchman. He reasons how he and Snowflake would always be by each other’s side.
Looking for clues about San’s belonging, Yu-ha is confused by her action. But she pleads to keep it a secret. He asserts that she should ask him for help if ever she needs to.
Dan-oh finds San to give him medicine but he is insistent to draw a line that she cannot cross for her own good.
Gaining permission from the King to kill Snowflake if the situation calls for it, Master Jang promises Consort Park that he will be his sword aimed at Lord Shin for giving him a chance to speak with the king directly.
“A man should be as fit as he is well-learned.”
Curious about the master funding their cause, Yu-ha and his fellow scholars try to ask the messenger for the identity of their financer. But he was advised to be patient especially since he is working on a noble cause.
It turns out that the messenger works for Lord Shin.
Meanwhile, Master Jang receives a report about Si-yeol and commands his men to capture him. Dan-oh who arrived at chaotic Buyounggak learned about what happened.
Worried about San, she is surprised to see that Si-yeol is held captive and under the sword point of Master Jang.
Keeping San busy, he still ends up knowing Si-yeol is captured at Master Jang’s residence. Dan-oh follows him and also helps draw the bowstring that he cannot pull because of his wound.
They successfully create a distraction and run from the soldiers chasing after them. Just then, Lord Shin arrives to question Master Jang’s interrogation of a royal family member.
At Lord Shin’s investigation, Master Kim was summoned to confirm his relationship with Si-yeol which freed him in the process.
Meanwhile, Yu-ha’s adopted mother dies and gives him his inheritance before she drew her last breath. Among the things given to him is a cryptic keepsake.
Upon learning that Dan-oh relinquished the ownership of Ihwawon, Master Jang deemed she already knew who Snowflake and Watchman are. They rummage the inn to check the belongings of the scholar.
They also head to where Dan-oh is staying with her nanny and sister after leaving the inn.
Master Jang points his sword at Dan-oh demanding to reveal who Lee Seol is. Just then, the Watchman arrives.

Interestingly, the speculation game on who Snowflake and Watchman is keeps the initial addicting drive of The Secret Romantic Guesthouse. However, San being the Watchman that Master Jang is looking for seems impossible.
It is feasible that San was trained as a member of the Shadow Group and later became Snowflakes’ protector. But the Watchman who protected young Lee Seol could be different.
Yu Ha giving hints of his roots also adds another confusing twist. In one way or another, the three are supporting the same cause of bringing the true heir to the throne even if they are hiding it.
Whether it is part of their plan to pretend they don’t know each other; or they really don’t know each other and inevitably realized their common goal is another scenario that can happen.
Quickly moving, the series also introduced Dan-oh’s sister Hong-joo who seems to be drawing a romantic line with Si-yeol.
While the guessing game keeps us busy on the protagonists’ side; the King’s thriving wrath executed through Master Jang would be a point to watch.
It’s nice to have a balanced wielding of power. With Lord Shin and Hwaryeong as secret aids to help the deposed prince claim his honor, the subsequent episodes look forward to a more thrilling outsmarting game.
