The Tale of Lady Ok

The Tale Of Lady Ok Episodes 13 and 14 Highlights

“Are you talking to me?”

We wish it wasn’t real, but that nasty lady recognized “Tae-young” as Gu-deok, her run-away slave. Though terrified, Tae-young kept her composure and denied the nasty lady’s allegations with a straight face, getting the nasty lady bewildered. Learning about that encounter, Seung-hwi urges Tae-young to leave together. But fleeing away at that point means admitting to those charges. So, Tae-young stays in town.

Tae-young knows very well that only death awaits her if caught. Yet, with her sense of duty, Tae-young can’t bring herself to save her skin and leave the village people on their own when they are about to starve to death after getting scammed out of their money and left with debts.

It also doesn’t help matters that the nasty lady is going around telling people that “Tae-young” is a slave and asks her father to arrest “Tae-young” and force her to confess. Can’t he at least do that when he got his magistrate position after making her Lord Park’s concubine?

To shake off the nasty lady, Seung-hwi sets up a mini-performance where he has two of his trusted people dress as slave hunters, and drop by the nasty lady’s residence, claiming they caught Gu-deok on Lork Park’s orders. Hearing that, the nasty lady heads back to the capital. But after realizing she has been deceived, she throws a tantrum to Lord Park, who is sick of her and strangles her in anger.

Hearing that the runaway slave works as a legal advocate, Lord Park connects the dots and jumps at the chance to get revenge on Tae-young. He doesn’t care about the truth in the slightest, only conniving to get rid of Tae-young since she gets in the way of his schemes. Since he has no evidence to support those claims, Lord Park settles to watch quietly and wait for a chance to attack Tae-young.

“As a magistrate, you should fear, care for, and love the people”

To help the starving villagers, Tae-young and Seung-hwi share rice and other grains with them. But that only works temporarily and a more effective solution is needed since the granaries are about to get empty. Hearing the aloe she plants in the backyard is expensive, Tae-young shares it with the villagers and together they plant aloe in a deserted land that isn’t claimed by anyone. Thankfully, the aloe thrives in that land. Except, Lord Park conspires with the new magistrate and forges a document that claims ownership of the land to one of his men.

Not that Tae-young will let this happen on her watch, exposing the forgery in court and returning the land to its rightful owner, who turns out to be one of the villagers. Better yet, Seung-hwi files a petition to impeach the magistrate and exposes all his crimes, getting him fired from his position and sentenced to 100 lashes that result in his death.

Hearing her dear father is dead, the nasty lady blows up, blaming Lord Park for not arresting Gu-deok and letting that happen. But Lord Park is only biding his time. The next thing we know, Gu-deok (as we will be calling her from now on) gets arrested for pretending to be a noble lady after running away from her master.

Earlier on, Gu-deok told Seung-hwi to escape and never look back if something happened to her. But as he watches her get taken, Seung-hwi barely manages to hold back. Seung-hwi wants to attack the officers, take Gu-deok’s hand, and flee together, but he knows very well that they won’t survive if he gets caught too as they already know he isn’t Yoon-gyum. Adding to the sorrow, Gu-deok is pregnant with their child and now both her fate and the child’s are hanging by a thread.

The Tale Of Lady Ok Episodes 13 and 14 Musings

We already knew we were heading toward that tragedy. Yet this is cruel no matter how we look at it. That nasty lady is having fun torturing people and flaunting her power, treating her servants as objects without an ounce of humanity. And her arrogance only got worse after becoming that greedy man’s concubine. They are two of a kind indeed!

The timing can’t get any worse either. Seung-hwi lost his father not long ago and now he is about to lose his wife and unborn child. At first, Seung-hwi stayed in the village only for Gu-deok but now he just found a new goal for his life and feels happy about it. But it is all going down the drain.

No matter how much we rack our brains, the only (and also most satisfying) way to save our leads is to expose lord Park’s crimes. Hence, getting that nasty lady demoted to a slave so she could be on the receiving end of what she did to other people. Better yet, everyone Gu-deok helped before join hands to protect her this time.

We have a hunch that the hidden figure from last week might be Gu-deok’s father. But if that is true, we wonder how this arc will play out. Despite the ups and downs, the story has remained gripping. Stick the landing, please show, and let our leads live together peacefully without worrying about anything.
