Thirty Nine Episode 7 Key Moments
In an adorable flashback, the episode gives a hint to Chan-young’s acting journey. Whining about the audition she failed, her friends chide her attitude has to be improved.
Blaming the funny face of the PD, her friends can only silently agree that she faced quite a tough battle when they saw his picture. That memory also breaks the reality that Joo-hee’s mom knows Mi-jo’s birth mother.
Back at present time, Seon-woo brings Mi-jo to the hospital for treatment and they go to their original camping plan. Sharing the identity of the woman she had a confrontation with, he deduced what happened.
Admitting her tough situation, he reminds her to care for herself as she does with Chan-young. Taking charge to make Mi-jo comfortable and fed, he sweetly watches her sleep.
“Yesterday you looked so good together. I almost believed that you were Chan-young’s boyfriend and that she was healthy. Her mom was excited as if you were her son-in-law. And I wanted to forget reality with Joo-hee and belive that everything was peachy. I just wanted to believe that.”
The next day, Mi-jo meets Jin-seok to get the bag and shoes she left. She also tells him what happened and how she wants the fleeting happy moment yesterday to happen for the sake of her friend. However, her wife arrived so she had to beg Yeon-ju to leave.
At that same moment, Seon-woo also meets Chan-young to reveal what happened to Mi-jo. Recognizing her best friend’s effort, Seon-woo cutely imposes how he’s also a part of the reasons why Mi-jo did not proceed with her sabbatical.
Surprised to meet a male version of herself in terms of bluffing, the two had a great time chatting. They also decide to go for a golf group date.
Exploring the world of jobless people, Joo-hee still leaves the house and hides the truth that she resigned to her mom and Hyeon-jun. But the latter learns the truth accidentally when he called the department store she used to work at.
Hyeon-jun invites Seon-woo and the girls to the restaurant so they can celebrate Joo-hee’s “toxic work” liberation party. He has also decided that Joo-hee would work for him as a part-timer.
Meanwhile, So-won decides to go back to the orphanage and stay there. She knows Seon-woo would be at peace if she will stay and helped out what she can.
“Hey, you did something right for the first time in your life! How did you think to do such a praiseworthy act?”
Meeting at China Town restaurant, Mi-jo and Chan-young are both elated to learn that Joo-hee will work at the restaurant. They were supposed to go for a golf day out, but the progress Joo-hee subconsciously is taking made her two friends perked up.
Later, Mi-jo finally relents to Chan-young’s golf date request. Feeling almost fulfilled for the bucket list she designed for her friends, Mi-jo whines on her intention to look for her birth mother.
At the clinic the next day, Mi-hyun pesters her younger sister to bring her new boyfriend to meet their parents. On cue, the boyfriend arrives confirming the golf plan and presenting golf balls gift customized with sweet and encouraging words.
“I don’t think I can’t coach you anymore. I’m afraid you’re on your own this time. I’m going to audition for this role too!”
While on a session with an actress for her audition, Chan-young gets a eureka moment. She decides to try out for the same audition inspired by Mi-jo’s words about her completing her own dream.
Because of her audition, Mi-jo and Seon-woo proceed to the golf course. It took a while for Jin-seok to take her to the audition place for the reason that he is still nervous that something might happen to them. In the past, they got into a car accident heading to an important audition for Chan-young.
Passing the audition in flying colors, the couple who went for golf also had a great time. But while Mi-jo headed to China Town to meet her friends, Seon-woo obliged the child care center’s director’s request to spare time for her.
So-won confesses to Director Kang that her adopted father ordered her to ask him to disown her. Empathizing what she might have felt, the orphanage director asked Seon-woo to meet and reveal the truth about what happened to So-won.
“I’ve kept this from you. I’m sorry Mi-jo. I know who your biological mom is.”
At the restaurant, the happy atmosphere was interrupted when Hyeon-jun’s girlfriend arrived. She expressed frustration that Hyeon-jun did not accept the head chef position at the 5-star hotel he used to work.
Another restaurant unwanted visit occurs as Yeon-ju finds her way to where Chan-young’s parents’ restaurant is located.
After the dinner, Mi-jo bumps on Joo-hee’s mother in the neighborhood. They happily walk together as she tipsily asks about her birth mom since it’s one of Chan-young’s dying wishes.
Tears welled in Joo-hee’s moms’ eyes, and she finally reveals her secret that she knows the birth mother of Mi-jo.
Thirty Nine Episode 7 Musings
What a packed episode for Thirty Nine. It made sure that the quite long wait was definitely worth it. Opting for a conflict development that does not involve evil persons and intentions has made this series a soothing one.
Sure, there are problems, but the focus to highlight the friendship among the three female leads shines the most.
A few hanging conclusions are expected in the next episodes involving Seon-woo’s disappointment to his father and Mi-jo’s acceptance of the news about her birth mom.
We can only hope that her inevitable discovery of how her birth mom has been calling her parents for assistance would not push her panic attack to a severe level.
It’s nice to get the affirmation that Chan-young is all set for a beautiful send-off after she passed the audition. It would be nicer if Yeon-ju the troublemaker can be given something not nice that she deserves.
Like Mi-jo and Chan-young, I am happy that Hyeon-jun broke up with her immature girlfriend. Hopefully, something will blossom between him and Joo-hee soon.
Celebrate friendship, romance and life in Thirty Nine! International fans can watch it on Netflix.
