Seo Gi Tae is Still Dead
Thinking she has fixed his father’s fate through the help of Jin-woo, Jung-in realizes his father is still dead in the present time she lives. After surviving the assassination attempt, he was embroiled in a hit-and-run which pushed the father of his victim to kill him while he was campaigning.
To preempt the looming assassination, Jung-in calls Jin-woo who is still recuperating from the injury he sustained saving Seo Gi Tae. Baffled that the result of his heroic did not save Seo Gi Tae, he was again asked by Jung-in for help.
She also revealed her sole bargaining chip – Jin-woo’s car accident details so he can avoid it. Something amiss in the investigation was caught by Jung-in. But, her father’s secretary who was paid to commit perjury can’t waver to reveal what really happened.
Hero Lee Jin Woo
Saving the doted presidential candidate earned Jin-woo an instant hero badge. He even got a personal visit from the revered politician. Leaving implied clues based on what Jung-in told him, he tells Seo Gi Tae to delay his campaign and not to drink much to avoid getting into an alcohol-induced accident.
Seo Gi Tae appreciated his concern but responded suspending the campaign can’t be undone. He also apologized for the belated apology since Jin-woo’s brother is Seo Gi Tae’s former aide. He vowed to be in his debt for the rest of his life.
Acknowledging what a great man Seo Gi Tae is, Jin-woo called Jung-in to help save her father.
Secretary Choe’s Betrayal
Jin-woo finds out that Seo Gi Tae went safely home after the dinner. At present timeline, Secretary Choe was pressured by police officer Han Do-kyung who orchestrated his betrayal to then Senator Seo. In exchange of money to aid his daughter’s medical bill, he committed perjury pinning the murder on Seo Gi Tae.
About to leave the country, Do-kyung bought his plane ticket and even had a van ready to take Secretary Choe to the airport. Sensing something dangerous, Secretary Choe excused himself to go to the wash room. But the villains were able to catch on. Escaping his captors, he called Jung-in to come clean, but the villains used his daughter as a leverage.
On his side, Jin-woo was not able to stop the death of Jo Yu-jin. To make the matter worse, Do-kyung who is friends with Jin-woo brought him for investigation about Jo Yu-jin’s case. That is after they ate and drank with Jin-woo confessing he got a tip that Seo Gi Tae is being targeted to die. He also told him that Seo Jung-in gave him the tip, but it came from the year 2020.
The arrest changed the present course of time and even made Seo Gi Tae’s looming death changed to being hit by a truck. But innocent people died with him. Jung-in also realized the hidden mastermind to be Han Do-kyung.
Seo Gi Tae’s Crucial Move
Thrown in the waters, Jung-in survives and regains consciousness in her house. Apparently, Seo Gi-tae’s schedule was pushed prioritizing his meeting with Kim Jin Cheol. That put Han Do-kyung on an arrest warrant, but he escaped his juniors.
Jin-woo was let go and learned from Jung-in’s voice mail that the factory workers he was helping will be put in danger along with Seo Gi-tae. He called Jung-in and learned about Do-kyung’s involvement in the case.
In the brink of Seo Gi-tae and the rallying factory workers being killed by the raging vehicle driven by Do-kyung, Jin-woo was able to intercept and save the people.
Jung-in’s present life return to normal. When she reached Jin-woo over the phone, she told him that his friend died two years after being arrested. Wanting to get to the bottom of his friend’s motive, he visited him – and got another surprise when he learned the reason why Do-kyung is on Seo Gi-tae.
He revealed that his brother was killed – and the man behind it was Seo Gi-tae.
Times Episodes 03 & 04 Musings
I love how smart the characters are in Times. This week’s episode they already figured out not to rush their actions because of its resulting consequences.
Action equals a reaction is the simple rule to remember in this series. Although focused on Jin-woo and Jung-in’s entangled lives, their connections to people around them led to changes in Jung-in’s presumed altered life.
Episode 4 cliff-hanger definitely pitched an oh-my-situation. If Jin-woo will be driven to investigate based on what Do-kyung told him, how can he communicate it with Jung-in?
We can’t dismiss the fact that Do-kyung looks really convoluted, so he could be messing up on Jin-woo’s psyche. At the same time, we can also have doubts that Seo Gi-tae is not the picture perfect principled politician he projects to be. Especially since there was an unsettling feeling when he learned that Jin-woo is his former aide’s brother.
I’m looking forward to be surprised on how the writer will sketch the conflict raised in two timelines after normalizing the present timeline. The initial problem hurdled was nicely executed and felt an apt closure already. Thus, I am curious to how it will sustain the energy.
The weight of the emotional onslaught is now equally directed to Jung-in and Jin-woo. I can only imagine how both their worlds will shatter if something painful really happened between their loved ones.
