Why Her Episode 3 Highlights
Last week, thanks to the combined efforts of Soo-jae and her assigned team, a professor who has been sexually assaulting women was finally dismissed at Seojung University Law School.
It was also revealed how Soo-jae and Gong Chan were previously connected.
“It’s not my fault that your sister died. It is your family’s fault that she died.”
Processing Gong-chan’s confession, Soo-jae munches a cup of ramen when her friend called. At that same moment, Group 8 is at Gong-chan’s uncles’ restaurant celebrating with a sumptuous feast.
The next day, a notice at school announces the formation of a free legal clinic with Soo-jae and her team manning it. To celebrate their first day, Director Kim proposes a lunch meeting. However, it gets canceled when the sister of Park So-young, Ji-young, staged a protest blaming and demeaning Soo-jae for her sister’s death.
Soo-jae asks Director Kim for them to move the scheduled lunch and tells Park Ji-young not to put the blame on her. She asserts how their family has been a burden to her late sister and that they should feel responsible for that since it pushed her to a kind of work that led to her demise.
Insisting she has evidence to back up her claim, Soo-jae ignored her and go to her business. However, a video of her seemingly meeting So-young on the rooftop went viral.
Contemplating her situation, Soo-jae looked back on what really happened that night. She discovered So-young is still in the area and found her on the rooftop.
When she asked her who she was meeting to have access inside, So-young refused to give a name and went dramatic over how Soo-jae looked down on her as a gold-digger. That very same scene was reflected in the video.
“Professor Oh, are you okay?”
It turns out Soo-jae can fully empathize So-young and the cross she bears because of her family. She, too, has a mother and two brothers who demand money to open a business.
They even disappointingly stress how the news could be true when she refused to do what they want without any insurance.
Amidst the annoying situation, she receives a message from Gong Chan checking if she’s okay.
In her class the next day, Soo-jae opens the discussion about the very case that she’s involved in. After a round of opinions, Gong-chan asserts she could have not intentionally murdered So-young since she fell from the rooftop at the same moment Soo-jae left the building. He reassures her that she’s not at fault for what happened to the victim.
When the rain suddenly pours, Gong-chan lent his umbrella which later caused Soo-jae a slight trouble in front of Gong Chan’s uncles’ restaurant. They offer her a sumptuous breakfast which she enjoyed happily.
Going to her usual business at TK Law Firm, Soo-jae got summoned to meet Director Choi. A case about three rich chaebol sons is stirring the public and his newly elected Managing Partner’s son, Ju-wan, is also confirmed to be at the same party. Soo-jae obliges the request to clean up the mess not because she was requested to do so, but for the business.
Huddling Group 8 at the legal clinic, she orders them to look into the case involving her and So-young.
“If there’s a problem, Soo-jae would take the blame.”
Meeting Ju-wan after the fiasco with chaebol sons, Chairman Choi explained to him the need to get Hansu Group documents that are in Soo-jae’s possession.
He also tells his son how he has let Soo-jae handle Hansu Group in the last 10 years so she can take the blame if something awry erupts.
At that same moment, Soo-jae finds a USB drive from the files she retrieved. She handa it to her resident file decrypter to get the information.
Gong-chan receives a text from Soo-jae that the group should meet her at TK Law Firm the next day.
“I didn’t ask you to like me back. I like you. Because I like you, I was worried about you. So, I wanted to know if you were okay.”
Discussing possible scenarios about So-young’s death, the team dismissed Ji-young’s involvement even when she was seen at the crime scene.
However, the next day, Ji-young was apprehended by the police. Gong Chan confronts Soo-jae if she tipped the police using the information they gathered. She refuses to explain herself and reminds him that he keeps crossing the line.
Reassuring Soo-jae that he worries about her and that’s why he’s been doing all those nice things, Gong Chan was asked to leave.
A bit unable to control her nerves, Soo-jae drops a glass. Rushing to check his professor when he heard the sound, Gong Chan cleaned the glass shards.
His kindness, sincere words, and the moment led to Soo-jae planting a soft kiss on his lips.
Why Her Episode 3 Musings
Living a life where she guards her emotions well, Soo-jae confronts Gong Chan’s genuine compassion in Why Her.
She is used to operating her problems, career or personal, in a rational and calculative way. She makes sure that she covers all the bases and never goes a few steps behind as well.
We sure can’t miss the aftermath of that kiss. To be honest, it’s a bit early to the story. Since I did not check the preview of episode 4 yet, Gong Chan’s reaction and the subsequent interaction between them is a point to watch next chapter.
Meeting Gong Chan who is unafraid to speak his mind is making pivotal changes to her well-being. Hardened by life experiences, she hopefully would learn to receive help, support and love from people who sincerely root for her.
That is especially since Chairman Choi’s elaborate plan to involve her in the chaotic partnerships he made under the law firm’s name is in full swing.
Can Soo-jae and Group 8 bring out the truth about So-young’s death?
